Dragonaut takes you to the hot springs!
Say you’re about halfway into watching your favorite anime. Certain circumstances will typically result in a trip to particular locations. “Where might that be?” you may ask. Of course the characters end up at the hot springs. As any anime fan knows, the hot springs episode provides the chance for a series to provide gratuitous fan service. Either that or the lower budget instance where plumbing fails and the characters HAVE to go to a bath house.
Take the voluptuous figures from the character designer of Witchblade and Love Hina, then stick them in a Hot Springs and you’ve got Dragonaut episode 7. Has this piqued your interest? Well then… go to FUNimation.com’s Download-to-Own section and get the subtitled episode NOW!!! At work and can’t watch it now? Then watch it when you get home from the comfort of your dark, maybe slightly damp room. Don’t forget to lock the door.
What’s your favorite hot springs episode? Bath house episodes included, but we’re not counting its close cousin – the Beach Episode.

“What’s your favorite hot springs episode?”
That’s an easy one, the Shakugan no Shana OVA episode.
Mainly, because of one scene at the end (on the bus). Alaster usually makes witty comments, but the last line was a little unexpected and was just down right hilarious to me.
The hot spring episode in the original Tenchi Muyo OVA holds a soft spot for me. Probably due to the nostalgia factor. That, and that one episode in Outlaw Star.
In the School Rumble OVA you get to see Harima’s ass.
@joelgundam01
That was my favorite episode in the Shana series. Not because it was the hot springs episode but because the main focus was on Matake Ogata (she’s my favorite character in the show).
Oooh hot springs episode? There are lots of good ones but the best one ever is the very last episode of El Hazard: The Alternative World. Technically they are healing springs for the priestesses but Lady Fatora makes that a hot springs episode! ^_^
I think I’d have to go with the Shakugan no Shana OVA episode as well.^^
All hot springs episodes episodes are made of win.
Two of my personal favorites are episode 5 of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, which had possibly the funniest scene ever with Yuno and Arf’s first appearance, and the hot springs epsiode from Outlaw Star, which had Gene getting a few epically nasty caster shells. (I haven’t seen Shana’s hot springs ep yet since I’m having a lot of trouble justifying buying the set when I have the singles just for that one episode.)
When will this episode of Dragonaut be available on the video portal. I have to say, after 6 episodes, I’m finding this series isn’t the horrid mess people make it out to be. (It’s not A+ material either but it doesn’t suck either in my opinion. Granted, the character designs are earning it extra points.)
The Solty Rei one was kinda funny, it wasnt really a hotspring episode but more everyone relaxing by the pool and Rose comes along and Is annoying, leading to that what do you call it circus swing scene with Solty/Her over a pool of electrified water.
This show was awful. Gonzo overdid it with this one.
Tyrenol’s question to Rojas:
Any young, reasonably good-looking guy; he’s secondary, inferior, or non-existent to the women he’s featured in the anime with. Should this be considered ‘entertainment’ from now on? Straight answer. “Yes” or “no.”
Rojas’ answer:
“Oh Yeahr! Check out them hot bodies over at Dragonaut’s 7th episoder!”
Hey, look. The knife wound from that stabbing a long time ago’s not going to heal itself.
Ai Yori Aoshi was really good for hot springs episodes. Second place is a tie between Tenchi Muyo! and Outlaw Star.
Favorite hot springs episode? That’s easy. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. I laughed my arse off beginning to end.
LOL, I’m just on that Solty Rei episode right, and Yes I do agree the Shana Hotsprings OVA was flat out hilarious.
Outlaw Star. But not because of the hot springs part, I liked the parts with Gene and the two wizards because they were flat out hilarious.
Seconding Fumoffu, that was hilarious.
Aww, Corey, Dragonaut is a lot of colorful fun. Not everyone’s favorite, but you have to admit, it is fun. Everyone loves the hot springs!
Tyrenol- You may want to give it a chance, Jin and Gio (two of the main guys) definitely don’t get walked all over. Dragonaut is a lot more about teamwork and the special bond between human and dragon than anyone taking the stage as a soloist. The girls being hot doesn’t hurt a bit, too!
Richard- Episodes 7 and 8 should be up on the video portal sometime today. Glad you’re liking it!
Despite what I thought about Dragonaut in general, this was one of my favorite episodes in the series. The other episode would be episode 26. Unfortunately, once we start getting further after episode 7, the quality begins to decline, fast.
As for my favorite hot springs episode? Probably Outlaw Star’s. That episode was down right hilarious and I just wish that people who saw the series back during the Toonami days could’ve seen it.
the hot spring episode in minami-ke: okawari.
lol gender benders can’t bathe in a hot spring.
@ shivbot: Yeah, I see them up now. I’m still not sure ultimately how I’m going to feel about Dragonaut but so far I just don’t feel that the anti-hype was justified. It’s not that bad.
Now if Funimation can put up the second Tower of Druga season for me and Strike Witches, my Gonzo hunger will be sated.
@ shivbot
It’s not just this one show, though. It’s the whole “you suck for being a guy” trend that’s been the dominant force of the anime industry.
Everyone seems to have “missed the memo” about “1st impressions and why it’s so important now.” This ain’t about “anti-hype.” It’s about “enjoying what you’re enjoying without leaving my conscience at the door.”
Favorite hot springs episode? Nothing can compare to Outlaw Star’s episode “Hot Spring Planet Tenrei.” It was a hot spring PLANET. I mean, really? Not to mention that you could lay the fanservice aside and it would still be funny for non-ecchi reasons. Yay, slapstick. But there was plenty of ecchi and fanservicey humor as well. Of course, Gene Starwind is involved along with two lecherous “wizards,” so yeah.
