FUNimation Entertainment Statement Regarding One Piece — Simulcast And Streaming On Hold

“As anime fans know, FUNimation Entertainment had planned, with the authorization of Toei Animation,  Fuji Television and Shueisha, for the first ever online simulcast of the series ‘One Piece’ on May 30th at 9:00 pm CDT., just one hour after its premiere on Japan’s Fuji Television. Unfortunately, we have determined that the FUNimation servers were compromised, even though we employ strict security standards. An unknown individual accessed and posted episode 403 online and as a direct result of this illegal act, all U.S. and Canadian fans will be deprived of access to this great anime series for the immediate future. We will make every effort to locate and prosecute the perpetrator(s) to the fullest extent of the law and will provide updates regarding this most serious matter.”

  1. That really sucks, I really was hoping to catch that, but now it seems someone has ruined it for the rest of us. I hope they are happy.

  2. THOSE MOT*********G SELFISH IDIOTIC DOWNRIGHT DIRTY B******S!!!!!!!

Like seriously, this f*****g blows. I’m not a fan of One Piece, but I have a friend who is. Plus this throws a serious kink in more possible simulcast updates AND it could compromise potential Toei liscenses! (Waaah Sailor Moon…..)

Hopefully Toei’s not too pissed… are they?

    ……fu****g c***-******g d******* fail-at-being-cool bas****s

  3. *Gasps* I hope not that would really suck too and just when it looked like Sailor Moon was going to get relicensed! T_T

If thats the case then I am just as pissed as you are!

  4. This really, really sucks! I hope you catch the d-bag(s) who did this :( ! I actually just started watching the streams from episode 1 the other day and really enjoyed the show. So many people have told me it is an awesome show and they were ecstatic that you guys were going to simulcast the show! I can only think that the people involved were doing this to be spiteful. Good luck in catching the b-tard(s) and I really hope that things work out for One Piece and it returns!

  5. Toei is gonna be pissed, goddamn. This won’t end well at all, possibly not just for One Piece, but other Toei titles as well. (Sailor Moon and Digimon.)

    Not as planned.

  6. :(
that’s … dissapointing. I was really excited for this news, and I was eagar to watch One Piece tonight. Guess I won’t be telling Funimation how much I love them now… which I still love you guys, it’s just disapointing news.

  7. Stay strong, FUNi. While unfortunate, you cannot show tolerance for this kind of activity. I really hope things will smooth over with Toei and that this will not affect the license, but should you lose it, the only proper blame will be placed on the impatient a**hole(s) responsible for this.

  8. i’m so pissed just when i started getting back into one piece it gets ruined by some….

  9. This sucks so much!!!!!!
I was waiting all day just to watch it and then some dirt bag ruins it for all of us!!!!
What the hell was he/she trying to accoplish?!!?!?!?!? Did they think that breaking the law to get a episode that was going to stream free was going to make the the star of the day? People like that really piss me off! I was looking forward to the simulcast so much!!! Now not only do we not get to watch One Piece, but FUNi’s probably in hot water and partnerships with Toei might be in jeopardy. I hope the scum who did this is caught and punished!

  10. I am not a fan of One Piece but this is so disgraceful. One person goes and ruins it for all of the fans out there. I hope you guys at Funimation prosecute to the fullest. I hope that you are allowed to post it up again at a later date after this has blown over. Good Luck to you Funimation.

    Side Question:

Does this have anything to do why the internet stream of the latest episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood isn’t working and shows an error message? All the trailers work but episode 8 isn’t working.

  11. This stinks. I hope you guys find who ever did this soon. What kind of IDIOT would mess with this good of a deal. And I hope that FUNImation and Toei don’t lose partnership with each other over something one loser did.

Anyway good luck getting this all straightened out. ^__^

  12. “Side Question:

Does this have anything to do why the internet stream of the latest episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood isn’t working and shows an error message? All the trailers work but episode 8 isn’t working.”

It’s like that for Phantom episode 9 as well.

  13. THANKS TO THE JERK WHO LEAKED IT! AAARRGh! Now Funi’s to Blame, just because some Weaboo couldn’t wait or hate Funi. This is why I don’t like the anime community. So friggin’ impatient. I hope they catch this loser! Please, don’t let Toei take One Piece or not get or not let them get Sailor Moon. Please Funi, figure something out! I don’t want you guys to lose One Piece! THIS ANGERS ME TO BITS! FUNI, CATCH THAT STUPID WEABOO D-BAG!!

  14. That’s not good. Any other anime, and that would be downright sad… :(

I was about to make a statement against “having a delay of my favorite anime for a duration of any time.” But then again I was the one who made a statement against “sloppy seconds and hand-me-downs.”

I’d like to make a statement for the creation of anime for us Westerners first as oppose to for the Japanese first. But hey. :P

  15. I’M VERY PISSED ABOUT THIS!!! Now they might not Get Digimon, Sailor Moon, or DB Kai!! That Tards gonna pay. I’m with you all the way Funi! Screw the haters, go and get One Piece back on track! I don’t want this to hinder the Dub. God help them all.

  16. Argh, this pisses me off so bad. I don’t even like One Piece, but I still feel bad for those who do. As someone else said, this is why we can’t have nice things. =/

If legal action can be taken, do it. Take these people down and show to all that this sort of behavior is not cool, nor will it be tolerated. Don’t let these people get away with pulling this garbage.

  17. So sorry, guys. So frustrating that some stupid so-called-fans went and ruined such a great opportunity.

Hopefully you can get Toei/Shuiesha/Fuji to give you guys another chance.

  18. The people who caused this were the people at horrible subs

    Please let the higher-ups know!

  19. OH, ITS ON NOW! Spread the word abut this. Funi should know about this.

  20. I’m not a fan of One Piece, but if this affects the streaming of FMA: Brotherhood, there WILL be hell to pay, especially considering the size of the fandom. Like, there will be an uprising. The bastards that did this clearly did not understand the consequences of fucking with the fans.

    YOU HAVE MY SWORD, FUNIMATION.

  21. AND MY BOW.

Srsly, how great that one person would ruin this for all of the rest of us. =\ I would like to think that the vast majority of the anime fandom does not condone this sort of thing, but I also don’t want to give too much credit to some of the troglodytes out there. =\

  22. WELL FFFFUUUUU!!!!! That mother loving hacking son of a biscuit eater! D< I had heard rumors of Sailor Moon being re licensed…I grew up watching that show, and i cried…YES IT MADE ME CRY! And I cried again when they took it away…and it sucks for the One Piece fans, and the others that could be stopped….FMA!!! LE GASP! If this ruins it…….There is no justice tough enough for this punk! Throw the book at him, from us Rangers, there will be NO OBJECTION!

    AND YOU HAVE MY AXE!

  23. This is a very sad day for all one piece fans
YOU HAVE MY PITCHFORK! AND MY FLAMETHROWER FOR DESTROYING WORTHLESS FANSUBS! WE SHALL AVENGE FUNi!

  24. =(

  25. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn3WR-H9F5U :x

  26. Make sure you flag the youtube videos too. The youtube guys might be able to delete it quicker than Funi can. (especially since there are fewer guys at funi, who have to go home eventually, and youtube guys are there around the clock.)

  27. lol horrible subs once again have proven flaws in flash streaming on anime wesites. i will continue to get my awsome subbed eps off yibis fan subs, cause it seems that funimation doesnt exist in australia, so i have to resort to the so called piracy (arrrr), you did do a good job of subbing the opening and episode but i still love good kareoke.

  28. What that ungrateful person did was insanely stupid. Having anime episodes being streamed close to the Japan airing is a privilege!

Yet, someone hacked the website and ended up creating tension between the companies. *sarcastic clap* He must be so proud of himself…

Being a fan of Toei’s works, I am not going to stand for this! :x

    Funi, you HAVE MY SCYTHE!

  29. Funi, YOU HAVE MY SPEAR AND SAIS!

  30. AND YOU HAVE MY MACHETES.

  31. That’s terrible, I hope you guys can track down his IP address and punish him good!

  32. *he/she

  33. I really was hoping to catch that, but now it seems someone has ruined it for the rest of us……………….SAVE ONE PIECE ,,,,FUNI

  34. Zetsuboushita! This is a time for Zetsubou Sensei References ready!

I’m in Despair! FUNimation not streaming One Piece has left me in Despair! I hope you guys catch that bastard. When and if you do i want to know what is going to happen to him. How is it possible to catch someone out of a zillions of people on this earth from off the Internet? How do you find him? I sure he is probably reading these comment with a smirk on his face…… Keep us updated. Why does people gotta mess up a good thing for everyone? It might have been a fansubber you guys should check them first.

Also what does immediate future mean?????

  35. @Mario 1-7

From what I understand, “immediate future” means until further notice, One piece will no longer be available through funimation.com/video. but no Final decision has been made. Funimation may have to renegotiate with toei animation and hopefully come to an agreement that will allow it to once again grace funimation’s website. So for the moment One Piece is gone, but it could return depending on the higher ups of both Funimation and Toei discussions.

I hope that helps, and even though I am not a One Piece fan I do hope it does return because “No Anime Fan” left behind IMO…As long as that person isn’t screwing things up for the honest fans.

Funimation, nail him/her to the wall.

  36. Whats going to happen to the dvds?

  37. http://funimation.com/video

  38. Fullest extent of the lawlz.

No one hacked anything…it was a public fucking link on the god damn internet.

    Lolz

  39. @TheFluff

Wow, according to your posts on the 1st site you linked to, your a funimation hater. You even went as far to say “sue funimation for licensing such shitty anime”….. Is the only reason you come here to spread your hatred with everyone else? I personally like a lot of titles funimation owns, and dislike some as well. The Same holds true for other companies like ADV, Geneon, Media Blasters and Viz. It’s alright not to like something, its human nature, but to spread hate like a virus is childish.

it seems to me that funimation over the past couple of years have made great strides in improving the American Anime Industry and are looking for fan opinions to only make it better. Rather than spread hate accross the industry, maybe you should suggest things to help improve their title selections.

The site may be correct on how to download funimations video, but it doesn’t excuse the right to illegally post it on other sites. That is against the laws. To post something that is not your own, or not licensed is against the law and should be prosecuted to the fullest. It’s similar to music piracy, someone may legally obtain a copy of an album, but as soon as they post it to where anyone can download it, it’s illegal. Funimation may need more secure servers in the future, but they broke no laws and abided by all terms and agreements for licensing. The person who illegally distributed the title broke the law and needs to be held responsible.

In summary, please do not force your hatred on the rest of us, but in the future help us make this a better world for Anime.

  40. “Uh. Funimation kinda brought this upon themselves”

    pure speculation nothing more.

I would recommend not clicking on that link anyways, it’s basically nothing more than a long winded rant apparently trying to prove some point.

  41. I’m not a fan of “One Piece” but I have to come to their aid and/or defense. Because of one selfish person just going for bragging rights online, the rest of the fans of “One Piece” who’s been dreaming of this day since it’s announcement to see new episodes on par with Japan legally got scr*wed over.

If I was the guy/girl who did this, I would seriously considering going into hiding . on and offline cause I’m afraid some psycho-fan of “One Piece” is going to find this person out and when they do. That’s the thing that I fear the most.

If you guys want to do FUNi a great service, Keep an ear to the ground and your eyes on screen Don’t let this clown get away with this. Let’s get AMW on his/her ass.

  42. hey funimation if you want to know whos responsible heres the link

Horrible subs. if its not them then sorry.but please i`m begging find them i like one piece and i dont want you guys to lose it you bought back from the dead and i thank you guys for that so it would suck if you guys lose it so find them please this is from a fan

  43. @TheFluff
Your paragraphs in that post on that website is misleading due to curse words, bad spelling, and horrible judgement.
You are a poor little weaboo who don’t have a life and nothing to do but bash dubbing companies who are kind enough to let anime fans watch anime on their website. There are many anime fans who support this dubbing company. So STFU and GTFO.

EDIT:This comment you see here is written by my crazed one piece fan of a sister. My sister logged on the FUNi blog and used my username.I don’t even use words like ‘STFU’ or ‘GTFO’.My sincerest apologies to anyone who is offened by my sister’s evil comments.

  44. It’s a damn shame, but I’m not sure if cancelling the entire simulcast to punish thousands of fans for the actions of one person is the way to go about it. I live in the UK so it doesn’t really relate to me, but now all those fans who would’ve stopped downloading fansubs to watch the show here are just going to go back to that. One step forward, two steps back.

    @Themidnightalchemist
Don’t criticise the spelling and grammar of others in such a poorly put together response.

  45. Ya know… I’ve heard alot of people comparing this to “leaving a fully stocked store unlocked” and such…

First of all, if the person had just downloaded the episode, no one would have really noticed. If a bunch of people went through this apparent “hole in funi’s servers” THAT would be like leaving the store unlocked.

This person (or group) not only took the episode from the site, which IS stealing and even in a court of law if a person stole from an unlocked store it is still stealing and the judge would still charge them with theft, but they distributed it for everyone to see online. And they did this before it aired in Japan, the episode is now being given out on Japanese websites, and now this person(s) have officially pissed off Toei, which is like the Japanese equivalent of pissing off Disney. So I hope these guys are prepared. That’s copywright infringement in TWO countries.

Edit: Um… guys? You’re not taking Brotherhood off ALL your video sharing sites, are you?

    Because I don’t mind a two-week delay, but if it’s taken away completely…. I think I’m gonna be sick….

  46. This move by FUNimation doesn’t make much sense. By doing this you are only encouraging people to stick with fansubs and download the copy that was illegally obtained.

Maybe FUNimation should contact crunchyroll, see how they do things. They’ve never had a leak for any of their many simulcasts. The only thing is HorribleSubs ripping out the video, but that’s after the show has already aired and there’s no stopping that.

  47. Uhh, you all know Horriblesubs is based in Egypt right? I doubt a relatively small company can get INTERPOL support.

Also, this is unavailable in the UK, so I will continue to get my releases in 1080i, not 360p(less than what your television broadcats btw), quickly, and effortlessly.

Oh an Funi? Invest in a private ftp server, you’ll do yourself some good.

  48. “…even though we employ strict security standards.”

Changing a letter in the url is hardly ‘illegal access’, or does it imply any form of SENSIBLE security if something is accessible that way. If Toei had a clause in your contracts about such issues, I can fully well understand if they’re pretty… angry.

Furthermore it’s not a different issue from ‘Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom’ which has been accessible in a similar manner, only difference being it perhaps not appearing elsewhere as soon as ep 403 of OP.

Also, tampering with the url is pretty common ‘know-how’ to deal with malfunctioning forums/sites, and I really can’t see how it would constitute any form of ‘hacking’, no matter what jurisdiction, inside or outside R1. Uploading of it on the other hand is a completely another issue, and has absolutely nothing to do with the ’security’ aspect in this case…

I’d like to point out that as a non-US resident, I couldn’t care less about these ‘region-locked’ streams (there’s a world outside R1 too…), no matter how official. Nor do I care in any way that you can’t ‘unlock’ those streams for other regions, that’s a matter you have to take up with the japanese companies if it’s such an affecting issue, and if that’s a futile effort, then, I guess, you’re out of luck… I’ll just stick to the rips/subs ‘available’ >_>…

I HAVE watched some streams on Funi, such as ‘Phantom’ , as bypassing those ‘locks’ is quite trivial (in Funi’s case even as trivial as changing the http header thingy, though that might change depending on their upgrades in regards to this incident?…).
But the quality and buffer issues are such that it just isn’t worth the extra effort, even if the buffer issue is easily solved by downloading the .flv instead of watching it directly in the site player…

Kyoko said: “First of all, if the person had just downloaded the episode, no one would have really noticed. If a bunch of people went through this apparent “hole in funi’s servers” THAT would be like leaving the store unlocked.”

What makes you think a lot of people haven’t used this loophole?
    Surprise!!
It HAS been used by a LOT of people X____X…

Also, in defense of TheFluff, he might take a hard stance, but he does provide some valid points, especially in regards to past instances of Funi ’security’, if you just take your time to read…

  49. This is disappointing news. I hope FUNi manages to adjust the security and bring this anticipated feature back in the future. It is always the actions of a few that ruin it for the many.

I’ve been purchasing the DVDs and have been waiting for a chance to watch up to date subs of the series legitimately. This was a huge thing FUNimation was attempting, and as a fan I really appreciated their effort. As long as Simulcasting isn’t written off entirely I can wait a few weeks.

  50. @Blanchimont

I see what your saying, but I would like to hear your take on the second step this person took. The fact that he put something he took and did not properly license on the internet. Whatever defense of TheFluff you have, it doesn’t excuse the fact that you two seem to omit this fact from the information you provide.

Like I said in my last post, even if Funimation had allowed people to download their videos with a download link, if you then posted it on a bit torrent or file sharing site you have still broken the law. Buying a CD or DVD does not give you the rights to reproduce or transmit those forms of media without consent from the creators.

As to the fact that somehow we don’t read on this forum, you may want to check again. We make very valid points that relate directly to to the link TheFluff posted, and as for my self, I’ve never said it was illegal in the way he/she obtained the file in question, but the way he distributed it. Maybe you need to stop for a minute and read these comments as well. Like I asked TheFluff, please offer up some useful information on how to improve the situation rather than spreading negativity.

  51. From Horrible-Subs.tk:

    1) Guessing the URL from previous patterns isn’t the equivalent of compromising a server.

You now know where to go FUNimation.

  52. wat the hell!!! im ganna kick this guys ass so hared his nat ganna be able to take a dump for the rest of his/her worthless life

  53. @heavydwayne
Basically, what TheFluff and Blanchimont are saying is:

“Unfortunately, in the last 24 hours we have determined that the FUNimation servers were compromised, even though we employ strict security standards.”

This statement is a lie. The Japanese companies are being told a lie, etc. As well as the fact, there was no “strict security standards” set in place and neither were the servers “compromised.” If “strict security standards” were set in place, then the file would not have been accessible so easily. And if the servers were “compromised” would there have not been other leaks? Possibly videos that were recently licensed and being worked on and not released to the public?

So, therefore, we KNOW that there was no “hacking” involved, only as something as simple as changing a NUMBER in the URL, which can be viewed from the source of any page that has Funimation video (i.e. if you were to go to One Piece 001 when it was available, you would have seen the whole URL in the source to the FLV).

Or, in fact, if you were a linux user using Lynx, the URL would be in plain sight.

  54. Here’s my question:

Funi’s streams do not allow you to download the video, only watch it.

So in that sense, software or no, wouldn’t downloading videos from a site that doesn’t provide you with the ability to download technically “hacking”?

  55. @Kyoko,

No, you are wrong, Funimations server setup forces you to download the file before viewing, when it’s “buffering” it’s storing the file in a temporary directory. Funimation is using a regular web server, not a streaming server or such. On the other hand, Crunchyroll forces you to stream and not download… however, as we can see, people have already gotten through their security.

  56. I’ll say this because the future of the teamwork, formed internationally from the love of anime, is at stake:

My hope is that the good people at FUNi use every means possible to CENSOR the everliving CENSOR out of the responsible party. And CENSOR them so hard that their bragging points they accumulated will give them a free hearse with an accompaning dirge.

I’ll be, well, SORE if this action by these circus clowns mean less cool anime and more crap from $unrise/Bancolding$, KyotoAnimu, Kadokawa Shoten’s West-hating PR, and their sickening ilk.

  57. Is there some reason that everybody is assuming that the person who posted a link to that blog is that blog’s owner? Have we moved beyond the concept of modifying a number in a URL being hacking to the concept that only site owners may publicize links to their own blogs? The Internet is a strange and curious place indeed.

  58. @Tyrenol@

Why do you do this? Kyoto Animation is the greatest Anime company ever. why do you provoke me to do battle with you?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB7o8×0wPhs&feature=related

  59. One person downloaded and shared it. I don’t care how “easy” it was to get it, the fact is it was an illegal activity. Ease doesn’t make the crime better. There’s nothing you can say to justify it.

This guy (and everyone defending him) doesn’t deserve anime or the internet. Get the hell out.

  60. @Kuyukly,

So you say it’s illegal to basically access anything that’s in a public directory, eh? That would technically mean, you accessing this blog is very illegal too. Get your reasons straight. Idiot.

  61. >and shared it.

Piracy, moron. Read my intent, not just my words.

  62. @Kuyukly,

Yes, the sharing part is illegal, however, “downloading” part was not illegal. It’s only illegal if the user hacked funimation servers, which was obviously not the case.

At any rate, the person who did it will probably roam free and continue his/her activities. It’s entirely funimation’s fault for having such “strict security” measures in place. This would’ve never happened if Funimation had decided to take measures before the OP leak, when they had Phantom being leaked a few hours early every week… but they decided to ignore it since obviously the Japanese company did not notice or did not care. Toei probably noticed and did not like it, thus suspending/canceling the license.

  63. No. Downloading it wasn’t illegal. The point was that he shared it. That’s what should not have happened. That was illegal, and saying “he pirates all the time” does not justify it at all. He SHOULD have _REPORTED_ the security hole. Just because they HAVE the hole does not mean its abuse is justified, whether they ignored it or not. Just as much blame goes to the pirate as much as to FUNimation, if not more.

  64. @MrA
Lolz…..seems to me that you lost that one with Kuyukly. Stop spreading your hate mongering on this blog. Leave if you can’t restrain yourself to a more appropriate manor.

And in response to you comment to me above……I guess you are the one who doesn’t read. I make many statements to how TheFluff shows how it may not be illegal to download it, my point has been from the start that the sharing of this file is what is considered illegal. If you can’t wrap your head around that fact, than you may need to ask more questions rather than call people idiots because they don’t agree with you. That sir, makes you ignorant. Again, like have stated many times on this blog, please help us make this a better place and offer up suggestions rather than call people names and act like a child. We all want to have the chance to expand the anime industry in America but comments like yours can set back the industry.

Please Take my words and offer useful insight to the situation and help us with the problem rather than attempting to create another one.

  65. Dammit, my post sounds awkward and I can’t edit it now ;_; Sentences are all switched around cuz of all my editing. Lol.

  66. @heavydwayne

There isn’t anything stopping anyone from downloading. However, funimation should have used proper security that would’ve refrained the user from downloading the file. I personally don’t hate funimation, but it was their idiocy that caused the file to be leaked. I mean, how stupid can one get? Other sites, unrelated to funimation, have been hotlinking funimation’s links. All it does is cause funimation to spend more money on bandwidth and make little to no money off of the web streaming. At the very least they could’ve used publicly available softwares/modules that protect the file itself from being hotlinked from a third party site, and also stop the user from guessing the filenames. There are modules for lighttpd such as “mod_secdownload” and I would not be surprised if there was something for apache as well. At the very least, crunchyroll has something of similar. That’s why their videos have yet to be leaked.

  67. @MrA

Thank you for the input, your last comment is exactly the kind of information and ideas that may help the situation. If you have more input on ideas to better their security keep them coming. Since funimation has only recently began streaming videos, ideas like that will better secure them in the future.

  68. I’M SO MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( Why did that website had to do take One Piece? I’m a big fan of that anime and I was waiting for funimation to put the episodes on the official One Piece website, I hope that Funi doesn’t lose their partnership with Toei.

    Wish the best for Funimation
    - Craig McLean

  69. It’s not a “Security hole”, security has nothing to do with it. There is no security. Anyone using the Safari browser can get all of the links to directly download any streamed video on this website. Downloading unreleased episodes only requires that one number in the link be changed. A child could have done whatever this idiot did. I would explain how to do it, but that would just encourage this kind of behavior.

I disagree that we shouldn’t criticize this “hacker” though. Posting the video wherever he did was illegal, served no purpose, and was destructive to the anime community.

I like Funimation, a lot, but they need to step up their security. All they really had to do in this situation was add random numbers to the links to the videos on their server. Then the “hacker” couldn’t have guessed the link.

  70. This is intense. FUNimation’s pissed Toei is Pissed One Piece Fans are pissed, People are arguing with each other, some guys are taking up for the bad guy. Dudes this is what the guy who hacked the site wants he is sitting back from his computer chair watching FUNimation and legal watching One Piece fans squirm. Well Dude your not getting me! I, M will capture you and bring what is dark into the light because I am Justice! I hope your smart cause I at least want a challenge. :-)

  71. I am appalled; Funimation was doing us all a favor by streaming OP for us so we wouldn’t have to deal wth bad fansubbing or poor so-called “high Quality” or “Hi-Definition” videos on places like Youtube… and then this happens.

If we’re to make any effort to assist Funimation, then we need to hit the ones responsible where it hurts – we need to stop altogetehr watching fansubs. yes, easier said than done, I know, but if we stop going to those sites, and also report those videos to youtube to get them taken down, we’ll be sending a message.

One Piece nearly got buried in America due to 4Kids’s horrible handling of the franchise, and Funimation worked very hard to get it back to how it should be viewed for us die-hard fans. Stealing of this episode they were going to stream for us was wrong, immoral, and just STUPID!

To show my support to Funimation, I’m no longer watching any OP fansubs. Period. and neither should you.

  72. @Robster80,

You go! I agree completely. Don’t watch any One Piece fansubs.

  73. I am very disappointed to hear about this. I saw that it had leaked but was going to wait to watch it on the official site later, as I’m sure many others were going to do. I was hoping that the simulcast would help One Piece get direly needed attention and publicity in North America. With the recent video games, One Piece Unlimited Cruise 1 & 2, set to be released in Europe but not in the USA, I, surely along with many others, was hoping this publicity would improve the chances of an American release…

I, for one, applaud Funimation for doing its best to bring this fantastic series some well-deserved attention, and for doing a pretty darn good job with both subbing and dubbing–I own all of the dub DVDs (with the exception of the movie, don’t have that yet…) and plan to buy the upcoming ones as well. I am hoping that this situation will be resolved as smoothly and swiftly as possible. Thank you, Funimation, for at least being kind enough to try and give us and One Piece a chance, and I am hoping that we will get another chance.

  74. The criminal who leaked the video, took actions that are unforgivable and he/she should be duly prosecuted, but I’ve gotta say, the FUNimation (Toei?) reaction, is really over the top/ridiculous. Removing ALL One Piece episodes from EVERY legitimate streaming site… Really?

Honestly people are going to watch fansubs of the episodes FUNi isnt streaming. So really the only ones being hurt here are FUNimation and Toei.

  75. I gave up Brotherhood fansubs for the cause (That’s the only fansub I watch. I prefer my anime in English and usually just read the manga till the dvds come out, but Fullmetal is the exception to all that) ….even though the video site doesn’t work on this thing so I gotta use the Youtube site.

….. I can wait two weeks per ep I can wait two weeks per ep I can wait two weeks per ep……

  76. I find it ironic that the One Piece simulcast was done in by pirates.

    Sad day… :(

  77. This sucks, sucks, sucks.

There is one major thing, you have to keep us informed, ADV lost a lot of good fan feel not talking to the fans over problems.

  78. I’m fearful as to what implications this is going to have in regards to the relationship between Toei and FUNimation. If this compromises any chances of getting something like Sailor Moon back in the States I will be very upset. Toei has alway been very protective of their properties and it only takes one thing to piss them off and bring everything back to square one.

  79. ;_; I just want FMA:B back…I only come to this site to watch it!

  80. This won’t happen if you streamed the One Piece to the other countrys not just America.

  81. @someone@

Thats not FUNimation’s job. FUNimation is an American distributor not and UK or where ever else. That is your country’s Anime distributors job if you want One Piece ask them.

  82.

  83. Also Why are people Blaming Funi for this. It’s like they hate them. What’s up?

  84. @Mario

Well maybe if KyotoAnimu didn’t feature some guy getting the crap beaten out of him by some invincible female, then I’d probably have a more positive view of them. Other than that; suck it up, sheeple.

  85. @Corey

Well to be fair, Funi’s security was just putting it up on a page not yet added to the site, all you had to do was guess the URL, not much security.

  86. I live in europe and I don’t watch One Piece.
For some reason the Funimaton website redirects to http://www.navarre.com/funimation/
Does this also happen to the US users, or doe they have some region check for US ip numbers :x

  87. @Tyrenol@

Dude are you serious? Just because Sunohara gets beat up by Tomoyo you hate the whole company? REALLY!? So you don’t like it when the girl is stronger than the dude I see. Sunohara and Tomoya can fight if you watched a little more than you would be able to see that. In an Anime like that there not gonna show a Man beat up on a girl it would look right and Dudes are NOT suppose to hit girls, and Clannad is a realistic Anime. Kyou and Tomoyo are powerful girls for a reason and Sunohara is a comedy character when he gets beat its funny he is never serious when he fights with Kyou or Tomoyo….. Really its a stupid reason to hate a whole company, Kyoto Animation has High Quality Anime every time they throw an Anime out it becomes the most popular anime that season… I admit that I don’t like Haruhi to much because the story is stupid, She gets bored everyone dies. :| Wow! but for some reason people worships her oh well. SHAFT is #2 in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei there are bunch of girls that beat up the man teacher an the only problem you said you had with that was it had suicide in it (Which no one kills themselves….)

  88. You know the sad part is other than being stoled from? How people on YT and others are blaming Funi and saying fansubs have better security and cheering the person who did this. I really hope this doesn’t affect other projects. I gave up watching fansubs because the sites gave me viruses and screwed up my computer. And also because Funi has higher quality. :-)

  89. @Danji

It was still illegal for that person to do that. Douche. I’m tired of this community. So impatient. They could at least wait, BUT No! They need there anime now. Now FMA is messed up too. Darn Weaboo’s and there’s no reason to defend that loser. They probably hate Funimation. These guys need to grow up.

  90. One thing FUNimation NEEDS to help us out on is… tell us if the streaming is the only thing that’s in danger, or if we have to worry about Toei pulling the entire LICENSE!!

Theres a LOT Of fans out there right now who are REALLY Nervous about this. FUNi has been doing AMAZINGLY with the One Piece DVDs, and I’d hate for this to have screwed that up

  91. @ Mario

You know… I’m just so glad that the Japanese anime industry at least has some capability of creating many different themes. If everyone did like KyotoAnimu and SHAFT, everything would quickly become outdated and flop overseas.

And saying “guys are not suppose to hit girls?” The guys are suppose to let the girls beat them up and we’re not suppose to defend themselves or counter? Exactly; you’re stuck in the 19th century.

Seriously? KyotoAnimu? Kadokawa Shouten and it’s PR? $unrise/Bancolding$? SHAFT? I’m going to paraphrase Satomi of Vairable Geo: They don’t have what it takes to dethrone Naruto / One Piece / FMA / Bleach / Deathnote / on down. Much less… Takasbromy this summer.

  92. I just want to say that I understand the stance that you guys are taking. I’m not happy about it, but I understand the stance.

If I find somewhere streaming the episode I shall of course report it to you guys! Please don’t let this crap stop what is one of the most exciting developments in the anime industry in years

  93. I think most of us would like to know if the other shows like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood will return soon. I have still yet to see episode 8 and I’m starting to have withdrawals. I understand that they may have been on the same server as the One Piece episode in question, but some information on this would be great.

    thanks,
    heavydwayne

  94. Just so you know guys Megavideo.com is streaming One Piece 403. :?: Maybe that should give Funimation some idea where to start and find this jerk who ruined it for the rest of us.

  95. @heavydwayne: They updated on Twitter that they’ll bring FMA:B back when they finish updating the security of the files, so FMA:B is still on.

  96. @Tyrenol

“And saying “guys are not suppose to hit girls?” The guys are suppose to let the girls beat them up and we’re not suppose to defend themselves or counter? Exactly; you’re stuck in the 19th century.”

Oh please! It’s one thing to admit you are a male chauvinistic jerk, but it’s another to ignorantly misappropriate facts. Back in the 19th century, women aren’t allowed to work, get an education or live independently or freely. They only allowed to become wives. Of course, that goes without saying that men could beat them however they like, with no obligation to be a gentlemen of any sort.

Quite different from the more civilized modern world now, isn’t it? Where currently women could not only earn their keep, but actually become successful in the corporate world and live a life free of dependence on a male. And gasp! They could sue a man for hitting them. Come now, it’s obvious that you wish for a revert back to the 19th century so that you could rule over women. Just be honest about it in future eh?

And it’s quite gratifying to see females free and in power, even if it’s just for comedic purposes.

  97. I’m so mad, it’s not funny! I was one of those people who was VERY excited about the One Piece streams, it was one of those shows I’ve wanted to see for a long time, but I didn’t want to buy it until I saw it, now thanks to some jerk I can’t. I hope Funimation will find them, sue them ’til they’re broke, send them to jail and burn their computer to ashes. Some weaboo just ruined a great opportunity and hopefully, they’ll catch the person or persons who did this. Not even a fansubber would go and hack Funimation’s servers. I hope Toei Animation won’t pull their shows off the site and go to someone else. This is a major blow to legal streams IMO. I usually don’t wish for someone to get sued, but in this case I do!

  98. @ Kel

And thank you for not paying attention to what I’ve been saying all this time. This is one of the reasons why I hate the otaku-tachi.

I said: “The guys are suppose to let the girls beat them up and we’re not suppose to defend themselves or counter?”

This is the 21th century. We should all be far and beyond the theme of anybody beating somebody else up; especially for laughs.

HOWEVER. If Youhei Sunahara is going to have his rear end handed to him constantly by Kyou and Tomoyo (even for laughs), then the reverse should be true and those two women should get the same serving they’ve given to Youhei.

Or is this all out of convenience; getting the “free pass” and playing the “victim” cards?

  99. @Tyrenol@

Tomoya also gets beat up by them. Sunohara CAN fight its fact the way he fought was real. if he attack a girl the way he was fighting ******** then it would just not be right a Man is NEVER suppose to hit a girl, if a girl hit you and you hit her back and I saw it I’d kick your ass no matter what the situation. but Clannad being an Anime I don’t see why you let Sunohara getting beat up bother you so much when he gets beat by the girls its always funny. Watch Clannad the After Story like episode 7 and I think 5 then you will see that both Tomoya and Sunohara can really fight with really Epic Animation the best Animation you will ever see in a fight.

  100. @matt

Thanks, I don’t use twitter so I didn’t check that place. It is good news, I’m glad to hear it will be back soon.

  101. @Mario

Oh, Oh, I know this story:

This ##### would play around on a bus that had been left on whilst the bus driver was nowhere to be scene. I politely tried to tell her to stop but she rudely refused. She instigated a fight so I had to kick her ass.

And then you and some other person would gang up on me. And when the cops came, the three of you hid behind him and frame me for fighting kids at school. So here I am; sitting in a police car and wondering what my future would hold. And I was only trying to make sure nobody else on the bus had been put into danger. The side of the story I would’ve told the court if it hadn’t been thrown out for lack of evidence.

And finally: Random Curiosity. You’re not helping the otaku cause, Mario. You’re not.

  102. @Tyrenol@

What in the hell are you talking about?

  103. OMG that just sucks. when you catch the person give them a good punishment!!

  104. Is this going to affect the Uncut DVD releases at all?

  105. This is what is on the HorribleSubs website:

    HorribleSubs Staff
    Announcement

    - All our releases are rips from Crunchyroll and *FUNImation*.

The “members” of the pro-HorribleSubs camp need to get their idol erased.

I wanted to see more of One Piece streamed (especially the older episodes), and now I can’t thanks to the idiots at that group.

  106. streamed is crap quality and there are plenty of people that sub one piece on the net in best quality why watch a on the day sub when you can get it the next day on veoh or megaupload

  107. @nitrowii

But the whole point of fansubs was speed, the old excuse was wait till the legal release for the quality, fansubs were for speed, now Funimation and the legal outlets have speed suddenly it is about quality?

Also Funimation STOP LEAKING THE SHOWS

  108. @ Mitamaking

That is what we call moving goalposts, and for people like that there is no pleasing them.

This situation on One Piece has me concerned, not because I’m a fan of One Piece, but waht this does for future deals. This may have shut some doors that anime fans as a fandom where demanding to be opened, through legitimate means. That this can be ruined in an act of spite, makes me hope that those responsible will be caught, as I don’t appreciate their efforts, and hoping not just our industry but the Japanese industries to fail (as they need this to succeed to) Is something that should be rejected by the anime fandom, not praised or justified.

So Funimation I wish you luck and you have my support in your endeavors (and hope those responsible are caught)

  109. They should do like YouTube and “country-block” them. No more “lol I’m in Egypt” crap.

  110. @LordRedhand:

It isn’t moving goalposts. When technology advances you expect yours shows to follow suit. Yes the legalized movement is moving forward, but you can’t expect a mass following if your shows are a huge step behind in technology. When most people now have 1080p TV’s they expect to be able to us that to their advantage. Offering a service that’s a step back and complaining about people moving goalposts is like asking the world to stop advancing technology.

The reason crunchyroll is successful is because they offer 720p videos, just like they would in Japan. There’s a huge difference when offering standard definition videos to high definition.

  111. @ alamarco

But ultimately; it’s the goal for people to buy the DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs.

If you’re an official company and you’re handing out 1080p shows, then there will be no incentive for people to buy. So they get viewers to cough up the money.

Jerks like those over at HorrorSubs believe that they’re the Robin Hoods who “rob from the rich and give to the poor.” However, anime creators and distributors will inevitably find a way to destroy any form of anime downloading because of their legitimate “losing money” argument

And that would suck for everyone who calls oneself an “anime fan.” :(

  112. Well said Tyrenol, it would suck big time for all TRUE anime fans.

  113. Because of one person now canada and america is gonna miss out on this. Lame.. whatever screw that person and screw funimation for letting one douche ruin their plans. To be honest I was super happy that it was on the net so early so neh :P

  114. @ alamarco Technology advances but it is unwise for every industry to blindly leap on it. Case in point was the format wars of HD vs. Blu-Ray. If we are to follow technology, which one should the industry follow? It would be to costly to follow both.

In addition, when trying to get anime to as many people as possible through streaming methods you go to the lowest common denominator. So it’s not to focus on thos with souped up computers with the latest and greatest. It’s the people who have 3 year old computers and 8 year old monitors. As any one will tell you that thse who have the latest and greatest computers are very few, and for good reason, that is an expensive habit that not everyone can afford at the same time. So you have a great computer, which is fine, but there are more that do not, and really saying “you should go out and get a better computer” isn’t a viable option.

In addition the anime fandom is making statements of wanting to just watch anime or to try before they buy it, to meet that demand does not require a download, and what they are showing (as music groups are experimenting with) is that what is given for free is slightly inferior to what you can buy, as that is a motivation to buy the product (whether DVD or download)

So when they make changes to fulfill the demand of wanting to watch the anime or try before you buy, and then change it to it needs to be better visual quality is the definition of moving goalposts.

  115. It is important to note the servers were not ‘compromised’ as so told except by the loosest definition. Someone just changed a number in the URL bar and BOOM it was there.

Simply preventing outside access to the file via a simple 1 line in an .htaccess would have solved this issue and allowed the episode to be uploaded so much earlier than it was to be shown as it was.

Really what is at fault here is the negligence of a company. If I put something online, even if I do not link to it, I should expect someone will get to it. This is the internet after all. You cannot take back what you put up. Although you can apparently redirect blame and cry while pointing fingers, punishing the whole for something to which only you are guilty of causing.

You (Funimation) are not Vlad, you cannot put a valuable in the market square and expect no one to steal if for fear of retribution. That being said, technically they copied it, which makes the analogy even more confusing. :?

  116. @Mitamaking
Fan subs has never been about speed. If you believe that then you are a fool. Tadashi who FUNi filed a false DMCA claim against and violated his rights. He was a one man team and released Soul eater. He was slow super slow. Like a week slow. However he kept his fans and out did zero day subbing groups because of his quality. People will wait for better.

Anyways I say Props to this so called criminal.

  117. @Nielk1
it sounds like you want to blame funi, for what happened. A comppany can only do what it can and thats all we can expect. It’s in times like this were a company can find falts and work to fix them.

Here is the the resolution of the incident Funimation.

  118. And here I was telling people to go watch the offical version. :?

Sounds like they need better web developers.

  119. oh no please not this dont is a truth no this sucks please this dont have a truht no !WHY GOD WHY WHY WHY GOD!……. :x

  120. I am blaming them yes. Mainly because I KNOW literally 1 line in an .htaccess file would have been enough. In this case Funi is guilty of gross negligence, not that the person who took it and distributed it was right.

If you walk around with a knife sheathed at your ass and a sign that says stab me, your probably gan’na get stabbed. Now, the person who stabs you is not in the right in any way, but you literally put yourself out there.

Now, technically, the same bad analogy works for SQL injection, if you had a hole you should have fixed it instead of leaving yourself open to attack, but in that case feelings are different because physical damage occurs.

Still, IMO, if the victim seemingly goes out of their way to make themselves a target, its their fault more than the ‘doer’. Legally though, the ‘doer’ is always the one at fault, morally, this is questionable.

The reaction is a bit overblown atm I would say, taking down the video portal for this ‘maintenance’ where a 5 second band-aid could fix the immediate issue (stop ALL pre-release leaks) while a larger fix could be put in the background then shifted into the place. (This fix being either not putting up content early, or implementing an htaccess.) I know I sound like a broken record, htaccess, htaccess, htaccess… Well htaccess is almost more important to web design then HTML now-a-days.

  121. I can see how this kind of piracy is harmful, now all of us have to suffer the video player being down, I am totally against piracy. On a diffrent subject I think all animes should be Simulcast, but since they are not do people in Japan think I am going to buy everything to see if its any good that they can watch on tv for “FREE” Like ‘Kurokami The Animation’ I never even heard about it before Crunchyroll Simulcast it, now its on my buy list. I would have never even looked it up most likely, Bandai is not my favorite company.

  122. its FUNImation’s fault really, and you can’t deny that fact. the definition of hacking has been really construed in the past few years, and changing a url to download a file is not hacking if the functionality for it to take place is there. besides that, watching anime from viz and funimation’s site sucks anyways its the equivalent to watching it on youtube or veoh only it takes longer. you can easily hire someone to setup a real streaming server or at least use a pseudo-streaming-esque system that would *attempt* to prevent someone from downloading the file. and lets not forget that more often the not someone who pirates is more likely to buy the pirated material then someone who doesn’t simply because they got to ‘try before they buy’. i liken american anime licensors to the mpaa & riaa. now please flame me the hell out now cause I know you all hate me :D

  123. i forgot to mention that crunchyroll’s attempt at streaming also fails because they lie, naruto isn’t HD it’s SD upscaled. boo on them!

  124. @ pooface

I don’t know where you get the “Those who pirate are more likely to buy” figure is coming from, but simply that it hasn’t helped or saved the industry by what they are doing. And I’m one of those types thast doesn’t need to see it before I buy it, it actually a very juvenille and time-wasting way to go about something, so I am one of those who has abandoned the see it before I buy it scheme, simply because it doesn’t work very well as a standard to uphold first. So every purchase I have made has been done without resorting to fansubs/piracy.

  125. is it really so wrong to want to see if you might like a series first or not before you buy. If you buy first and not like it then its just taking up space. Been there done that, and it took forever to find someone else to give it to who wanted the seires. Wathching fan subs isn’t a bad way to see if you like a series.

  126. @LordRedhand

Thanks for basically proving my point: “so I am one of those who has abandoned the see it before I buy it scheme” meaning that you too have used this “scheme”.

    @dragon0

    Thank you!

    ——————

and on another note, fansubs are always better then the released versions mainly because the fansubbers care about us! not some douchebags in corporate who decide that ‘Believe It’ is a good catch phrase for someone who is supposed to be badass. thanks for nothing assholes :D

  127. Will the video portal be working soon. Hope so would like to get back to watching some of the series I’m considering on buying, from Funi.

  128. @ Pooface

Actually no I haven’t used fansubs/piracy to follow a “see it before I buy it scheme” as at one point anime was on television….

And the reason why you have to abandon it as the first primary use is that it wastes time. Alot of it, as essentially you are telling me that in order to determine if a series is good I have to see it and I have to watch all of the said series. Multiply that to every anime series made in a year and I’m wasting a lot of time and effort. Better to put some trust in others first, and the fansubber crowd has not shown itself to be trustworhty to me.

As to the Naruto knock you do now he is suppossed to be annoying and not a badass right? And the fansubber aren’t doing it for you they are doing it for themselves and rather selfishly, as their activities are killing the raw materials that it takes to make their “hobby” possible. The corporations at least have a motivation to do well and to treat the work with a measure of respect. And if it goes poorly for them, well less anime gets licensed and less money goes back to the studio that makes anime possible.

  129. @LordRedhand
If you only watch 1or 2 eps subed or not to see if you like a series, your not wasting alot of time. Besides because of the fansubs or the alike, many series can be seen by fans such as ourselves and if companies like funimation licence them we already have the opinion if we would buy them or not. At that point if the company shuts down the fansubs, like with soul eater, it just makes it all the more worth it when it becomes available for us to buy.

  130. @ dragon0

My ethics won’t allow me to goto fansubs, thus if you need to see it before you buy it, I’m for legal streaming efforts and actions taken to threaten that should be rejected, not praised, as this action that was done caused alot of harm to legal efforts to get what hte anime fan community was wanting.

As for me I’ve said I don’t need to see it before I buy it, I know what I like and have some confidence in myself to trust myself and trustworthy reviewers. I want to be excited by what the R1 distributors are releasing as oppossed to asking why they aren’t releasing the latest in Japan, as I want to be satisfied with what we have now and try to put some stability back into the industry as oppossed to explosive demand that cannot be filled. So say Spice and Wolf for example, I’m interested in buying that series, sight unseen because I know what I like, and I don’t need a fansub to tell me that.

  131. @ LordRedhand

Before this gets too out of hand let me just say that it’s not that I don’t understand your point, it just seems to me that your being too harsh to thoes that do use the method of watch before you buy and to thoes who do fansubs, they work hard after all. I buy anime on both sides of this fence so I can understand you point, please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying your appronch is wrong nor mean any offence. But I must admit there are times I feel i just have to see a show when I hear how good it is.

On a friendly not I too plane on buying Spice and Wolf without having seen.

  132. I am going to buy Spice and Wolf without seeing it. Also I only watch two or three episodes to see if I will buy a show, that does not grab me like Spice and Wolf or Kaze No Stigma. there are tons I don’t watch.

I think american anime industry would be a lot smaller without fansubs.

  133. agreed.

  134. AHHHHHHHHHH…………..4 THE LOVE OF”’ Y Y Y………… WHAT WRONG WITH PEOPLE………………….AND NOW WE HAVE 2 WAIT ALL OVER AGAIN FOR ONE PIECE,…….,..,.,.,……………I RELAY HOPE TINS DOES NOT TAKE LONG ””SERIOUSLY””

  135. Calm down.

Funi were are all waiting, how much longer do we have to wait for the video portal?

  136. @dragon0

    I <3 you

    @LordRedHand

I bet your watching a fansub right now, and don’t tell me that your ethics prevent you from watching one because we all know you would otherwise you wouldn’t have been able to determine your position and try to defend it so strongly. Without fansubs, or piracy for that matter the american industry would be dead — just look at the RIAA, what do you think would happen if everyone stopped pirating music? There would be a spike in LOSSES, not SALES. You need to look at advocates like Nine Inch Nails who actually respect their fans and keep loyal to what they want, they don’t get angry at the fans because they steal their music in fact without them they wouldn’t be making any money right now. Besides that fansubbers are 80% of the time more in touch with the japanese language then that of the legitimate translators and can actually formulate proper and modern sentences. On that note I can say that not all fansubbers are great. Dattebayo for instance are douchebags — but I guess that is besides the point.

    @Chrisc

    I <3 you too

    @KRACX

    You’re stupid.

    ——-

Does everyone agree that american voice actors suck with the exception of like 3 people? I would be all for the american industry if it didn’t make an anime so good sound so bad. :D

  137. funimation is gay for not having an edit button

    @LordRedHand

I forgot to comment on your last statement so here goes: You mentioned ” And the fansubber aren’t doing it for you they are doing it for themselves and rather selfishly, as their activities are killing the raw materials that it takes to make their “hobby” possible.”

I have two problems with that, one being that it holds no ground and two is that you should have no clue what your talking about because your ethics prevent you from knowing anything about fansub groups, and no following the bandwagon and spouting baseless remarks does not make you look cool or smart.

You also stated: “The corporations at least have a motivation to do well and to treat the work with a measure of respect. And if it goes poorly for them, well less anime gets licensed and less money goes back to the studio that makes anime possible.”

Do you know why 99% of the animes in Japan aren’t released in America? Thats because the market is completely different here and the demand isn’t as large as in Japan, only blockbuster type animes (or what the american licenser thinks will be) will ever make it to an american release. You can see this happen with video games all the time, even more so in the video game industry. The american licensors are only interested in ways to get that beautiful green money out of your pocket and into their greedy ass hands. There are a couple exceptions but I’m afraid Funimation does not fall into the category, especially with their lack of interaction with fans when compared to people like Viz.

Lastly, your interested in Spice and Wolf? It is a great series but drops off near the middle of the series, it picks up rather quickly though. Overall I give it an 7.5/10. By the way, most “legitimate” reviewers are watching those fansubs you hate so much :D

  138. Pooface your wrong here “just look at the RIAA, what do you think would happen if everyone stopped pirating music? There would be a spike in LOSSES, not SALES.”
Pirating music does hurt the music industry, but unlike the american anime industry you can go to AOL, Yahoo, and other websites and watch all music videos legally for free. Pirating anime does hurt Japans anime industry but only if people in Japan can see it becouse they could have seen it for free on tv then if they like it buy it. In the U.S. you have to buy most animes to even see it. I hope they start to Simulcast all animes, that would help the american anime industry tons.

This should change your mind about downloading. I dislike the music industry. http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/18/minnesota.music.download.fine/index.html Nothing ever will get downloaded to my computer.

  139. Actually pooface I am who I say I am, so no I don’t watch fansubs. Period. As you know just becasue “Everyone else does it!” doesn’t make it right.

I’d refer you to search Kantianism, as that is where my ethics are coming from. So I judge on the action that you take, not the consequences.

So sorry of you here me say that my ethics will not allow me to download fansubs because I find the asction itself as wrong, so saying but I bought “x” series doesn’t register well with me becasue of the steps you took to get there when you have legitimate options to come to the same conclusion of whether a series is worth a purchase or rental.

  140. Look, for all you people who are complaining. In reality, the “American Anime Industry” is an oxymoron. Anime, by nature is Japanese. Also, why would you ask to watch a dub? It’s not the real thing. It’s directed at westerners. Which makes no sense at all, seeing as subs are cheaper to make, are faster to make, and don’t sound like a bunch of weird crap. If it’s something that’s Japanese in the first place, then watch it in Japanese with subs. Would you ask to watch an English show dubbed in Italian, Japanese, or any other language? I don’t think so. If Funimation intends to prosecute, they should understand that the large majority of anime and manga fans (OTAKU) don’t care who gets it to them, they just care how fast it gets out. Same goes for us Americans who love Lost, The Office, or some other shows. Just because it came out before Funimation subbed it doesn’t mean the servers were compromised. Almost all Japanese shows are recorded and posted online immediately after they’re released, so anyone could easily download and fansub it. Although I have nothing against Funimation, I think they take things too seriously. Does VIZ Media actively prosecute or search for scanlators to take action against? Not really. Funimation should grow up and just acquire the files for subtitling ahead of time, sub them, and then post them at the same time as the Japanese show, in order to avoid the ire of the otaku community. Delaying the show will only anger people. It’s not going to help Funimation gain profits or support from the public.

  141. Oh, and thumbs up to the “criminal” who leaked ep. 403, cuz it came out faster than greedy corporates intended it to.

  142. @ Rational Thnker

What you have a problem with getting it 1 hour after Japanese Broadcast Airing?

And actually I prefer dubs with anime simply because there are lines of text that draw my eyes away from where I’m suppossed to be looking. A good dub actually gets me closer to the original experience than whatever the best sub could do, simply because of that.

As to your other statment about subs being faster, with the exception of legitimate simul-casting efforts. that isn’t true. As recent release of dubs/subs vs. Sub only took the same amount of time.

And I believe you and your little Otaku friends learn a little patience, now is good time to start.

  143. @ Rational Thinker

As anime fans we can apretiate the original dialog but to read text and to try and watch what is happening at the same time becomes difficult especilly in action moments.

As for would we want to watch a english show in another laanguage… somebay probably would, espesilly if it is going to be seen in another country with a diff language.

YOu should think a little more before you try talking for the anime/manga fans the “Otaku” , we don’t all feel the same way your making it out to be.

  144. hackin pwns… LAWL some n00bs no appreciate pur haxorz power….. newf*gs… mush lurk moar

  145. Think your cute. That statement proves you can’t understand the appreciate we have to companies like Funimation, bandai, VIZ, etc..They work hard to bring us anime titles, and we are more than happy to buy them.

  146. I wish Funi would tell us already if they’re going to be able to start streaming one piece again if ever.:(

  147. @Netstryke

i am one of those one piece freaks “I’m afraid some psycho-fan of “One Piece” is going to find this person out and when they do. That’s the thing that I fear the most.” oh.. if i could i would nail that sob for doing that to my favorite anime.   but at least i can still watch it other places..but not earlyer…ill go all gear second on his a star star, oh yeah XD XD XD

  148. As many probably already know……………THE PORTAL IS WORKING AGAIN. FINALY. Now time to get viewing.

  149. I really hope they get the problems with OP solved soon. There are already over 400 episodes and growing.OP is one of my favorite animes so I hope they continue to work on it! Also I’m just curious, are you guys ever going to get the other One Piece Movies[ if at all possible] and have them dubbed in the States? [OP Movie 10 is coming out I belive soon-Dec? and the other ones would be great also]

  150. Lawl. This is funny considering asia is all about bootlegs and knockoff clones of console hardware .. and copywrite law doesn’t mean anything.

Who cares, download the content from your favorite torrent site.

  151. From what I could tell from previous research, it didn’t seem like somebody “hacked” the episode from Funi’s servers, but rather, somebody uploaded it on the public servers early, and was able to be found easily by URL changing.

  152. this bites! I finally find out about an english dubbed one piece that is actually continuing…and it gets illegally released early due to some jerk who thought he was gonna be a great person for releasing it sooner than planned!!!! >( JEEZ!!!! If i find this person, so help me that i won’t strangle them with my bare hands !!!!!!
