Another great reason to buy Romeo x Juliet

Anthony Aguon on facebook pointed out to me that the background instrumental music for Romeo X Juliet was composed and conducted by Hitoshi Sakimoto, the composer for Final Fantasy XII.

How awesome is that?  If you like Final Fantasy music, then you’ve gotta pick up Romeo X Juliet purely for that reason.  I’m a big fan of FF music.  I even went to the Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds concert in Dallas this past sunday at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony, performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

It was a great concert though it ended a little disappointingly.  Due to the concert running a bit long, they had to cut the last song on the program which was “Terra’s Theme” from FFVI.  Instead they played what was supposed to be the encore… “One Winged Angel.” I’m sorry if you happen to love that song, but I for one am sick of it.  I didn’t think it was the greatest song to begin with, but to have every video game related concert end with it becomes quite tiresome.  If you were at the concert, you probably heard me shout “PLAY TERRA’S THEME” really loudly after the conductor decided to go with “One Winged Angel.”

Aside from that, it was a pretty satisfying concert. I thought it was really clever to actually perform the entire opera from FFVI also.  They also had a mini cosplay contest before the concert, though only 5 people participated.  A really good Edea from VIII won.  I liked the song selection overall better than the Dear Friends concert a few years back in Ft. Worth.  A quick tip for any of you going to a symphony even if it is a video game concert – Do dress appropriately.  If not out of respect for yourself, then out of respect for the establishment.

In conclusion,

Go buy ROMEO x JULIET because it’s awesome on so many different levels – and I don’t mean lvl 99 white mage, although that’d be awesome too.

Also, Eminence Symphony Orchestra is lovely too. People point out the Sakimoto tie-in but Eminence is probably the only pro orchestra outside of Japan that makes anime music a part of their group identity and I think their work in RxJ is tops.

Hitoshi Sakimoto also did the music for Valkyria Chronicles and Final Fantasy Tactics. He is indeed awesome.

I saw Eminence at Otakon a couple of years back (or was that last year). Anyway, they were awesome!

I am glad dallas is only eight hours away from where I live. I was glad I didn’t miss that once in a life time Final Fantasy concert.

Already own the first half and just started watching today. This was a near total blind-buy based off of a friend’s recommentation and I’m really enjoying it so far.

The English dub is beyond brilliant in my opinion! This take on the classic is also surprisingly interesting in and of itself. Juliet makes for a great heroine.
