@ MeggieMay: I have the same problem, only replace “then plays a few minutes” in your post with “then plays 3 seconds” and you have my situation. I haven’t even been able to finish an opening for an episode.
As dragon0 posted, you have to pause and let it. . . would the term be pre-buffer? Anyway, I had to pause mine to let it do that and then it played perfectly. No more buffering (at least on the normal video, the HQ was a little more buffer happy but still perfectly servicable) while I was watching, no stops, pausing later on during a second watch didn’t cause the player to crash. If the Video Portal is replaced by this or if this is the Shodojo player, I’m a happy duck. Either way I can FINALLY get back to streaming some Funi shows.
And this stream has made me want to buy Soul Eater which I really hadn’t cared about one way or the other before. (How the heck did I not take notice of this show sooner?)

the look is excellent but it needs a preloading option. Sometimes the data streams slow down and slows the playback.

yeah i gave it a 3 on playback quality, but i just watched it again and that was too harsh. this thing loaded in 4 seconds and was perfectly smooth with no buffering or pauses all the way through. and the quality was much better than any other video site i’ve used. this is about as close as it gets to having a downloaded hd file on your desktop. thumbs up FUNi.

@RichardJ, I know about the buffering trick and that’s how I managed to get to the halfway mark on Sgt Frog Ep 1. However, the player still died on me at that point and wouldn’t continue (and I had actually reloaded it earlier after a earlier lock up to get that far) :( That’s way too much hassle to watch a video IMO (I mean it took me two hours, maybe more to get that far :x ). Now, I had a Flash Player update come through the other day and I’ve not gone back to see if that helped any or not and I will do that as soon as I can.
Still, the test player it played the video fine. Yes, it stopped for short buffer at the start but it then played perfect for the rest of the episode. So I still think this would be a much better player than the junk they’re currently using.

anyone wonder if this was just a way for them to get people to watch soul eater….. but the new player is awesome, sooooooooooooooooo much better than the one they got now. If they get one piece back to stream ill die watching it on in HD. oh right if you do get it back you need “next time” at the end, it makes me want to watch next weeks even more and just isnt the same without it

I think it was a way to get others to watch soul eater. It worked beautifly to. There are already some people who have sayed because of the new vid player they will be giving soul eater a go. Smart plan Funi.

The Funimation player compared to Crunchyroll player that I have to pause every show I watch for about 5 minutes so it can load. The Funiation player is awesome.

yes it did work beautifully its smart idea “hey you could win a free box set if you watch this episode for a show you may not have given a chance”. I would buy from crunchyroll but there subs arent very good for some stuff and i hate there player cuz it seem to hate my computer which doesnt make sense cuz it plays fine on my 6 year old comp……

@ Misheru: No offense but what exactly are you talking about? What kind of contest has the winner pay for the prize? It’s not a prize if you pay for it. (And it’s not like a single box set of anime costs enough for Uncle Sam to send in the gestapo to get taxable value.)
