BOO! Getting in the Halloween Spirit!
We’re smack-dab in the middle of October so it’s the perfect time to get scared and/or creeped out, but not in the perverted-old-man-in-the-corner-wearing-a-trench-coat-during-a-girls’-volleyball-game kind of creeped out. Over at ANN, a thread is going on about recommendations for anime that would help to get in the Halloween mood. A good amount of FUNimation titles were suggested including: Hell Girl, Le Chevalier D’Eon, Ghost Hunt, When They Cry, Red Garden, and Shikabane Hime. I guess since it is October, you could technically count Pumpkin Scissors even though it has nothing to do with Halloween or horror for that matter.
What shows do you think would scare up a good time for the holidays?

Yea I wish I had that Shikabane Hime on DVD………. Anyway whats Le Chevalier D’ Eon?
BTW – props to people with Halloween themed avatars. I recently zombified myself for this month’s avatar.
I think HELL GIRL may be most appropriate; it has diverse enough storytelling from episode to episode while remaining genuinely creepy on the whole… making you think you’re inching closer and closer to a solution, when in reality, you’re still pretty far away.
I think you’ve covered the major titles that would spook you up for Halloween. But to get in the spirt of Halloween with witches, wizards ghosts, ghouls, vampires, etc.. you could say Moon Phase, Vampire Knight, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fairy Tale as a recent one I’ve seen. I know these are not scary but they have some points that could fit up to Halloween. It sucks I have to work that nihgt.
I love to dress up for tric or treat while passing out candy.
i always wanted to watch hell girl
Probably something like Black Butler… It’d be cool if that got licensed on Halloween!
dudes! ya know what is pretty cool 4 halloween? Hellsing and I Luv Halloween! more halloween than hellsing, but there still really awesome!
None of these are Funimation titles, but these were the first three titles that came into mind.
Perfect Blue, Boogiepop Phantom and Blood: The Last Vampire (with Halloween theme)
yo dragon0 yu yu hakusho is so not halloween! im sorry, but it is so not! all it is is some dude dies and comes back to life! now im not sayin i dont like it, because i am a huge fan, its just not halloween cus theres a reason for him comin back. the rest isnt creepy either! i just, dont, think it really matches.
P.S.- you spellt night wrong
When they Cry definitely
Hmm, never seen this one, but what about Tokyo Majin? The trailer looks freaky, and I guess I get spooked pretty easily. Definitely Shikabane Hime. And, I know this one isn’t out yet, but I think Ga Rei Zero also fits under the Halloween category.
I’ll vouch for Ghost Hunt and D’eon.
Plus it would be ULTRACOOL of FUNi licensed Black Butler.
A few months ago there was an electricity outage and I read the last volume of Death Note. I was pretty creeped out after that.
I like the psychological thrillers around this time of year. One’s with that eerie atmosphere like Boogiepop, Texhnolyze, and even though it’ hasn’t been licensed yet, the Kara no Kyokai movies. Elfen Lied is up on the list too (I can’t believe no one said that yet).
@ Deathgirl
I’ll be the first to admit my spelling isn’t the greastest, so please leave that alone. Second, If you’ve seen all of yu yu hakusho you’d know I was refering to the demons that keep poping up. Besides they were just examples off the top of my head. I figured funi already listed the best choices for scary, thrill busted. Why you judging.
xxxHolic can be pretty darn creepy when it wants to be…
Kakurendo: Hide and Seek
When They Cry
Requiem from the Darkness
Hell Girl
Elfen Lied
Soul Eater
Rosario+Vampire
Hellsing
When They Cry
Ghost Hunt
Tokyo Maijin
XXXHolic
I’m actually watching some anime/live action stuff that I think go with Halloween including Tokyo Maijin and XXXHolic.
@dragon0- yes i understand. yes, how rude of me! please forgive me. i just read the manga of yu yu hakusho and ive seen seasons 1-3 and its just that, i dont find it very scary. nor inuyasha. cus thats just- AGH! there i go again! being all rude! im sorry! just my thought thats all.
@ Mario1-7: Le Chevalier D’ Eon is a pretty cool historically-based series set in France during King Louis XV’s rule. D’eon is trying to discover the truth about his sister Lia’s death and is drawn into a web of political intrigue and dark magic. Swords, possession, revolution and nightmarish incidents abound. I’d recommend it.
@ An: You can watch the first two episodes of Hell Girl on Funimation’s Video Portal here. You may also want to check out IFC. Hell Girl is a personal favorite and I REALLY wish Funimation would license the next two seasons worth.
I’ll add Le Portrait De Petite Cossette to the list of Halloween titles to watch. Gorgeous art, great music and a wicked eerie atmosphere makes this story of love between a man and a ghost just awesome.
@ Deathgirl
I can forgive, because everybody gets 1.
But seriously now, the offical title of Yu Yu Haskusho was “Yu Yu Hakusho – Ghost Files”. And yes yes I know they are not scary but like I said, funi pretty much got the major ones so I just thought of others that sorta fit along thoes lines. Moon Phase isn’t scary but the vampire part fits the book. The point here is I love halloween and I sucks I got to work that day.
When they cry deff, espesially the last few episodes of the last few chapters they all go crazy and f up.
