Hey! Nice Package! – DRAGON BOX!
This week we cover the elusive creature known to most as the Dragon Box. We manage to capture a specimen from the vast nether regions of the FUNimation marketing closet. Without the help from the UPS guy, the Dragon Box could have gotten the best of us. Though it put up quite a fight, we eventually tame the beast and dissect it for all to see.
We also cover Tsubasa Season 1 Blu-ray and Bamboo Blade Part 1.
In case video was not quite enough documentation for the creature, I have also take snapshots of the disassembled specimen.

I hate to say it but when I have kids, I will indoctrinate them into anime fandom.
I’ve been thinking about getting into the Dragon Ball franchise but it’s so long. I had no idea how long until I looked up DBZ.
I didn’t enjoy Tsubasa as much as I thought I would but I’d buy Card Captor Sakura in a heartbeat. HINT HINT, NUDGE NUDGE. (That Blu-Ray does look great though.)
Bamboo Blade is going into my collection ASAP. I am loving it on the Portal. Miya-Miya rocks! I do wish this had the double thinpack style release though.
@Richard J. – I wish Bamboo Blade had the double thinpacks too… unfortunately that couldn’t be.
Just got confermation on Bamboo Blade being shiped. I’ve seen the show and it is a great series, I loved it. The double thinpacks would have been nice but what can you do. Already have Tsubasa, that too is agreat show. Not big into the Dragon Ball thing but it looked cool.
Im not into DRAGON BALL Z but the packaging is AWESUM!!
Please can you do sumthing simular for FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: BROTHERHOOD when you start releasing it in the Spring of 2010?
I would luvto have the Soundtracks and a Metal Box to collected the Series in like the first FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST Series, if at all possibl?
Hope that this is’nt just wishfull thinking on my part?
@ Rojas: Can you elaborate on the reasons or is that one of those things that has to be kept confidential? (Also do you happen to know what kind of packaging will be used for Strike Witches when it finally comes out?)
And keep up the great work! Everyone at Funi is doing a good job and, hopefully, the economy will pick up and ya’ll will get even more great shows for us.
Wow, that’s definitely a “nice package”.
Considering buying the DragonBox for my brother…day-yumn, that is some lovely packaging, even if I don’t really care about DBZ.
And Bamboo Blade is awesomesauce (just finished watching it this week). Think I’ll wait for a complete collection on it, but I was really surprised by how much I liked it.
Dragon BallZ has been one of my favorite animes for the longest time!! I’m so thrilled to hear about the new box coming out!!! Thank you for this video!!
Ok nice package, verry nice.
Now release Fullmetal panic season 1 on blu ray (getting season 2 soon)
Great package, both Dragonball Z and Bamboo Blade. Thanks for making Subtitles the default.
@mckg1
Funimation doesn’t own the original Full Metal Panic! (or Fumoffu), Section 23 (formerly ADV Films) still owns the rights to Full Metal Panic. But I’d like to have a bluray of that show as well :-) .
@Rojas
I feel kind of weird asking a question like this, but is it at all possible that I could buy a replacement case for my Gungrave box set? All the thincases and discs are fine, however the outer slipcase had an unfortunate accident. If you (or anyone else for that matter) know of any way I could buy something like that (without buying the boxset over again), it would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry again if this is a ridiculous question :sorry: .
I love that Funi recognizes the hard-core fans which crave the original product. Japanese audio being the default and keeping the original aspect ratio (in lieu of the 16:9 hack job) that is just sweet.
Btw.. Bamboo Blade is an awesome show and everyone should pick it up, regardless of your affinity toward kendo anime or sports anime in general.
Bambloo Blade wo nagashite….
@jmfsilenthill – Try emailing productconcerns@funimation.com for replacement packaging issues.
@Richard J. – Packaging depends on a lot of things and Bamboo Blade fell into the single amaray category. I don’t have a definite for Strike Witches yet, but I would guess a 2 slimpack box.
@Sirch1241 – I agree. Bamboo Blade is awesome!
That is one impressibe Dragon Box
@Rojas
Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated!
Nice package, indeed. ![]()
I also like how the actual Japanese names of the attacks were used in the book. That’s what you call accuracy.
I’ll definitely buy a copy when it arrives at my local HMV. ![]()
@Richard J.: I’m with you on getting even more great shows! *crosses fingers for Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo*
Not to mention, higher-quality packaging.
Thank you a million Funimation! Mine just arrived in the mail today! I can’t wait for the next 6! The video doesn’t do it justice. It’s so shiny and sleek looking when you hold it in your hands, it feels like a DVD version of gold or something precious-metal-y lol.
I’m tempted to get Tsubasa, maybe I’ll give it another chance. The one thing that disappoints me is the package for bamboo blade; I would prefer the classic format of half season sets with 2 thinpak.
So that means that from now all the half season sets will be like this?
It’s up to whoever designs the cases for a series. Some come out like Bamboo Blade has, others come out in the thincase style.
Again I have to say that the big blue banner on the Blu-ray set ruins the whole thing. It just makes the box look tacky and ugly… Is it some kind of requirement to have that banner and not just a little Blu-ray logo on the spine of the case? Really it hurts all the blu-ray sets that have come out of Funimation.
Most Blu-rays have a Clear blu plastic top that has the logo and when that pastic isn’t actually part of the box it looks ok but when it’s a giant blue strip across the top of the art work it just looks ugly.
The tsubasa blue-ray looks awesome(though i already own both seasons)
And im looking forward to buying Bamboo Blade soon. (Ive watched the anime in sub already and a few of the eps available in dub on your site.)
Nice work Funimation!
