ICHI at Select Theatres Across Canada This Thursday

ICHI - In Theaters 2009

Cineplex Entertainment and FUNimation Films will present the festival favourite and critically-acclaimed film ICHI for one-night only at movie theatres across Canada this Thursday, November 26, 2009.

ICHI was directed by famed Japanese director Fumihiko Sori who helmed cult live action hit
PING PONG, which won Best Director Award at the Japanese Academy Awards in 2002, and
the CGI sci-fi animation VEXILLE.

Sori’s film pays tribute to the long running film franchise ZATOICHI, but by making the main
character a blind swordswoman instead of a blind swordsman, Sori adds his own intriguing twist!
Popular film and television actress Haruka Ayase is the blind musician Ichi who leads a life of
solitude as she wanders from town to town. When a village becomes hostage to two opposing
clans, Ichi must reveal her deadly sword fighting skills to protect the villagers.

All screenings will begin at 7:00 pm. Starting Friday, November 6th, tickets will be available
online as well as at participating theatre box offices. Admission for
children ages 3 – 12 is $9.95 + tax, seniors is $9.95 + tax and general admission is $10.95 + tax.

If you’re not in Canada and missed the U.S. showings, don’t worry.  You can bring ICHI to your home theatre on DVD & Blu-ray on December 22. For more about ICHI, please visit FUNimation.com/ICHI.

I’m kinda amazed at how this blog is currently saying nothing about the recent news of co-producing anime.  I mean…  C’mon now, Rojas.  Did you guys catch the slowness flu?

My take on this news is basically the same:  I’m okay with it just as long as it doesn’t turn into blatant otaku-pandering, anti-shounen, style-over-substance animu.

Speaking of which:  You think we can get a license-rescue and redub of Hanaukyo Maids La Verite?  Can you license First Squad as well?  8)

Did you not listen to the dub?  The constant switching between English (speaking) and Japanese (screaming) for Tarou?
