It’s Not San Diego Comic-Con, It’s Called Comic-Con International!

The largest convention that FUNimation takes part in is finally here. I’ve been planning for this show since the day I stepped through the doors at FUNimation, and now I finally get to lay it all out for you lucky anime fans!

First up, the really big news that we’ve been talking about since FUNiCon 4.0. Fans of Comic-Con International know that the show is big on one thing, which sadly isn’t comics: EXCLUSIVES!!! This year FUNimation will be taking a bigger part in this tradition than in previous years. This go around we finally hit the big time. That’s right: we have our own exclusives section on Comic-Con’s website. Adam did a pretty good job introducing you to our Comic-Con exclusives in his recent blog post, so I don’t need to say too much about the Luffy Mallow and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Shirt. I just want to point a few things you may not have noticed:

1)  We’ll be dropping the price of the One Piece Luffy Mallow even lower than what it’s listed for in the official Comic-Con Exclusives Guide. Instead of paying $25 dollars, it’s now an even $20!

2) CORRECTION: Due to an error in production, the One Piece Mallows at Comic-Con will be slightly different than the those that will be released into retailers at a later date. at the FUNimation booth will be slightly different than the ones available at the Shocker Toys booth. You might even see the difference if you look closely at the Mallow pics on the Comic-Con Exclusives page and the one on Adam’s blog post.

3) The Luffy Mallows are limited to 200. The Brotherhood shirts are limited to 300. It’s first come, first serve and we expect to be sold out of them by Saturday afternoon. Don’t dink around, make sure you head straight to the FUNimation booth to get yours before we run out. Booth #4135.

This is also going to be a big show for our new friends over at Sushi Typhoon. They’ll be screening two of their cult hit movies on Friday night at Comic-Con in a bloody back-to-back double feature. Catch Alien Vs. Ninja at 8:30 PM in Room 3 of the Convention Center, followed by Mutant Girls Squad at 10:15. Sushi Typhoon will also be hosting their own panel on Thursday at 8:15 in Room 5AB.

<3 Mika Mika <3

"Hi, I'm Mika Hijii, star of Alien Vs. Ninja! Meet me at the FUNimation Booth!"

That’s not all for Sushi Typhoon, because throughout the weekend you can catch the Japanese stars of Alien Vs. Ninja at the FUNimation booth, decked out in full ninja gear with the actual rubber alien suit and actor that appears in the film!

Take a photo with them and get their autograph at the FUNimation booth, all for free! I can’t wait to meet Mika Hijii :bloody: !

You can catch the cast of Alien Vs. Ninja at the following times:

Thursday, July 22 – 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM

Friday, July 23 – 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM

Saturday, July 24 – 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM

FUNimation will also be having two special signings at the booth on Saturday. Stop by between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM to meet Vic Mignogna, voice of Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly in Dragon Ball Z. Mr. Mignogna was also recently announced as the voice of Greece in Hetalia! Vic will only be at the booth for a short time, and his lines fill up quick, so make sure you get there early so you don’t miss out!

After Vic’s Saturday signing, there will be a Dragon Ball Z Kai autograph signing from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with three heavyweights in the Dragon Ball Universe: Sean Schemmel, who voices Goku and King Kai, Chris Sabat, who voices Piccolo and Vegeta, and finally Justin Cook, who not only directs but also voices Goku’s older brother, Raditz! We will be passing out Dragon Balls and Super Saiyan Hair that you can get autographed on the spot. We’ll also have a special promotion going at the booth where if you buy Dragon Ball Z Kai on DVD or BluRay, you’ll instantly receive a full set of our special collector’s Dargonballs! It’s pretty much the only way to collect all seven at the show.

Last but not least, we will be hosting two panels at San Diego Comic Con this year. Join us on Thursday, July 22nd for our FUNimation Industry Panel at 6 PM in Room 25ABC. Then join us again on Saturday, July 24th for our Dragon Ball Z Kai Panel with Justin Cook, Chris Sabat and Sean Schemmel at 11:30 AM in room 5AB.

We have lot’s in store for everyone at Comic-Con International this year. If you’re one of the 100,000 lucky enough to have a badge to the show this year, then be sure to stop by the FUNimation booth and check out some of the exclusive swag and sale items that we’ll have available. dragonpiece on says:

Will there be any big license news at the industry panel? Or will it be just a rehash of previous cons?

  • 3
    Maiku on says:

    @dragonpiece

While i certainly can’t speak for Funi I would think they will have some new stuff to announce. I just don’t think they will have Anime Expo levels of new stuff to announce(I would REALLY be shocked if they announced that much again)

Between Comic-con and Otakon I am hoping we see Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works(Geneon kinda hinted that Funi may be releasing it at Anime Expo) and xxxHolic Kei and OAD’s. Anything else would be icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned if those 2 things are shown.

I was going to go and actually someone had gotten passes but sadly because the cost of air travel, place stay, etc was a big worry I ended up canceling those plans. :(

It wouldve been really cool if you could say who specifically was hosting the industry panel, like some of the voice actors are producers and such and i wanted to know if it was just behind the scenes staff, im choosing this panel over 2 others i would HATE to miss in the hopes of seeing some of my favorite voice actors/staff of funimation…
