Evangelion 2.22: Voice of Mari Debut

Amazon.com just posted the exclusive clip from Evangelion 2.22 that shows the first time Shinji (Spike Spencer) meets Mari (Trina Nishimura). As a little bonus, Spike introduces the clips with a bit of commentary.

Find the clip on the Amazon page under the box art where it says “See 2 more images and videos“. While you’re there, make sure your pre-order before the release on March 29th.

Remember, the English dub pretty much hasn’t been heard anywhere except within the FUNimation walls.  The theatrical release has been sub only, so this is your first chance to hear the English voices for an extended amount of time. First time ever for Mari.

Enjoy and tell us what you think. =)

    I like Trina as Mari in that clip, but the real test is the opening scene.

    @within the FUNimation walls

    Oh.. Lucky. Those Funimation walls are more luckier than us.

    Nice sneak peek. [Spoiler] Mari did indeed made much unannounced drop. Classic. :wink: Shinji is lucky or unlucky fellow now isn’t he?

    I like it, she meets my three criteria for her; (1) her voice reflects the characters age (2) it reflects her gender (3) her voice reflects the personality of the character. Keep up the good work Trinia!

    Just noticed Evangelion 2.22 is only $12.99 on DVD on Amazon.com, great price for those who don’t have a Blu Ray player. Personally I haven’t watched my Evangelion 1.11 Blu Ray yet. I’ll try marathoning both films when I can get 2.22.

    1 – oddly enough this represents about a third of Mari’s total screentime if you think about it, she isn’t in that much of the movie

    2 – you didn’t give Mari a British accent. Not that this is a problem, given that Asuka is German but doesn’t have a German accent. That might have been silly.

    3 – my concern is that in the original Japanese version, Mari is speaking English on the phone in this scene….its a plot point that Shinji doesn’t understand what she’s saying. The English dub doesn’t quite reflect that Mari is speaking in “English” (when its tacitly understood that everyone is speaking Japanese)

    4 – Go Trina Nishimura!

    5 – Do you agree with the assessment of Mari found in the April 2011 issue of Otaku USA magazine?

    @you didn’t give Mari a British accent

    Why would she need a British accent? Despite popular belief, you can be British and not talk in a(As shown on American Television) cliche way. Most British people don’t speak like that lol

    Trina is a great fit for Mari, but I just cannot get into these Rebuild dubs. Hopefully those who do will enjoy her, but this will probably be my only exposure to the English version. Also, I agree with V about the Japanese/English deal, though really it’s not uncommon with dubbed anime to replace all languages with English, so it’ll stay an inside detail for the sub viewing fans like it usually does.

    Which British accent are you talking about? Because while I may not be able to tell them apart, I know there are quite a few, and they wouldn’t be called “British accents” if British folks didn’t use them. (Plus, characters in the British TV I’ve seen generally haven’t used anything like Nishimura’s solidly American accent.)

    @Shay Guy

    Speaking about the way British people are often portrayed with that ridiculus accent. Gah I don’t know what you call it. I feel retarded for mentioning now LOL

    I still wonder why you guys are hyping this more than Tiffany Grant returning as Auska.

    Oh well she sounds good.

    @Mitamaking

    Tiffany Grant returning is a no brainer though, much like Spike Spencer. If you don’t have either of these in an Evangelion dub. Dub fans would RAGGGGGEEEE.
