FUNimation Licenses THE LEGEND IS BORN – IP MAN

FUNimation® Entertainment today announced it will be distributing the 2010 prequel to the successful IP MAN franchise, THE LEGEND IS BORN – IP MAN, in the U.S.

The studio has acquired the theatrical, home entertainment, broadcast, digital and merchandising rights to the live action martial arts drama from Atrium Productions.

A semi-biographical film based on the early life events of Wing Chun master Yip Man, famous for mentoring Bruce Lee, is helmed by director Herman Yau and stars Dennis To in the title role.

THE LEGEND IS BORN – IP MAN also features a fight between martial arts legends Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao and an appearance by 86-year-old Ip Chun, Ip Man’s real life son, as one of the wing chun master’s mentors and who acted as an advisor to the film.

FUNimation Entertainment will offer the film on DVD and Blu-ray late this year following a theatrical release.

No one cares about this trash. Make a separate blog or something for these crappy live action shows, seriously.

Plenty of people care about the live action licenses. They often outsell anime releases by wide margins and amazingly enough the fans of foreign films don’t just automatically go straight to torrents but do in fact pay for real and official releases.

Anime fans? Yeah, folks like you and me are probably paying an extra $20 bucks every time we buy something just because most of fandom can’t be bothered to buy legit product. Hell, even the fans who are willing to pay are tricked into buying boots or just plain buy them cause they’re cheap.

If the boots alone were gone, the industry would see a spike in profits that might actually put us in another boom time.

So yeah, lets let Funi get the money it can get from these and hope they keep licensing anime despite the fact they could do better not bothering with us at all.
