FUNimation Entertainment Acquires CITY UNDER SEIGE

Flower Mound, TX (June 11, 2011) – FUNimation® Entertainment today announced it has acquired the rights to distribute the live action film, CITY UNDER SEIGE, in the U.S.  This 2010 Hong Kong science fiction action film, directed and co-written by Benny Chan (New Police Story, Fist of Fury, and Heroic Duo), follows a group of circus performers who go on a rampage after accidental exposure to chemical gas left by the Japanese army in WWII grants them superhuman abilities.

The film stars Aaron Kwok (seven-time Hong Kong Film Awards nominee), Shu Qi (Hong Kong Film Award winner) and Collin Chou (The Forbidden Kingdom, The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix Reloaded, and Jet Li’s Fearless).

FUNimation will offer the film on DVD and Blu-ray early next year.  The film will also be shown at the 10th Annual Asian Film Festival of Dallas in July.

    Another title that peaks my interest, these asian films have such interesting story ideas.

    Speaking of release date, what time next year? Jan? Feb? Traditionally one is inside more as its normally freezing cold, I would love some movies to watch at that time lol

    Seen “City Under Siege” last year and it was a huge stinker!
    Plot was dumb, villains are shallow and Aaron Kwok’s character was not sympathetic at all. FUNI shoulda bought the rights to “Detective Dee” instead. That was by far one of the better surprise hits (considering Tsui Hark hasn’t exactly churned out a decent hit in recent years).

    It can’t be that bad, City Under Siege is averaging a 5.0 rating on Imdb and Detective Dee a 6.6/10(Has more votes), so really as far as ratings go, Detective Dee is marginally better. I have a feeling you’re only saying that because you want Detective Dee licensed.
