Here’s the long and short of it: I don’t play scary games. I’m a huge wimp and I know my limits, thank you very much. Yet, I keep getting called back to play those kinds of titles while wearing the KOR-FX Immersive Gaming Vest… and I keep agreeing. Why? Because despite my crushing wimpiness, I actually have a lot of fun with it.
When I was first asked to try out the vest, the team set me up to play the Silent Hills demo, P.T.
(THANKS, GUYS.) Playing the game was terrifying. Feeling the game was an entirely different beast, as evidenced by the image below.
This time around, Â I suited up to play Alien Isolation. Not exactly a “scary” game, but scary enough for me. I was thrown in at about the 40-minute mark and though I didn’t encounter a huge amount of actual Aliens at that point, I almost didn’t need to. The vest allowed me to experience a real level of tension that was both nerve-racking and exhilarating. Check out some of the highlights from my playthrough and see why my mom is so proud of me:
Some of you may be asking, “What is the KOR-FX vest?” so I’ve got a quick break-down for you:
What is this?
KOR-FX uses the audio from your game, movie or music to create precise, directed haptic output through high-definition transducer speakers. These speakers echo into your chest cavity. The vibrations are synced to the action on the screen and allow you to feel what you hear and see.
KOR-FX is not a rumble pack. Rumble packs use spinning motors to create vibrations. KOR-FX uses acoustic speakers to provide haptic feedback. These speakers send vibrations, they do not emit sound.
So I can feel getting shot?
KOR-FX provides directional signals so you can feel  tanks and helicopters approaching, or detect the direction of incoming sniper rounds. You’ll feel the impact of getting shot and where the bullet came from. KOR-FX gives you high-definition feedback that allows you to feel the onscreen action for the first time.
What games should I try first?
FPS and Horror games are the current favorites. Â Forza is fun as well!
OK. I get it. How do I try it?
