Fruits Basket returns in 2019 with a new anime covering the FULL story, coming to FunimationNow!

One of the most beloved shoujo manga series the world over, Fruits Basket was a hugely influential series that helped propel the late 90s/early 2000s anime boom in North America.

Funimation is absolutely ecstatic to announce that a brand-new Fruits Basket anime, now covering the ENTIRE story of the original manga, will be broadcast in the 2019 anime season with North American streaming on FunimationNow

We’ve been hearing the question, “Will there ever be a new season of Fruits Basket, covering the entire manga?” at conventions and on social media for years, and longtime North American fans will remember that over 13 years ago, you came together to fold over a thousand paper cranes to express your longing for a new series.

This new announcement is very meaningful to so many fans — as well as many of us in the Funimation office — and we can’t wait to see the new series!

You can read the full press release of the announcement here, including more details around the new series, plus comments from the original manga artist, Natsuki Takaya, who serves as executive supervisor to the new series. Takaya-sensei explains her feelings about the new series and the aspects that she prescribed for the production in the aforementioned press release.
