The Works of Kyoto Animation, From Violet Evergarden to Free!

It is with a heavy heart that we remember the work of those affected by the tragic fire at Kyoto Animation.

The Kyoto Shimbun newspaper has reported the names of 10 of the 35 victims, including industry veterans and passionate creatives who shaped some of the most prolific art not just in anime, but in culture the world over.


Yasuhiro Takemoto — In addition to nearly two decades of key animation and episode direction work, Takemoto-san directed The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie, Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu and The Second Raid, Lucky Star (Episode 5 onward), Hyouka, the High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- movie, Amagi Brilliant Park and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid.


Futoshi Nishiya — Animator and animation director for multiple KyoAni titles, plus character designer for Free!, Hyouka, Nichijou, Liz and the Blue Bird, and A Silent Voice.


Jun’ichi Uda — Animator on Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, A Silent Voice, Tamako Market and many more.


Yuki Omura — Award-winning student who graduated from Tohoka University.


Yuka Kasama — Graduate of Osaka Seikei University.


Yoshiji Kigami — Director and episode director who worked on Munto, Violet Evergarden, Sound! Euphonium, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Clannad, Nichijou — My Ordinary Life and many more.


Ami Kuriki — Key animator who worked on Violet Evergarden, Free! Dive to the Future, Free! -Take Your Marks-, High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- and many more.


Sachie Tsuda — Painter, finisher, clean-up animator and special effects work on Lucky Star TV, Clannad, Nichijou — My Ordinary Life, Free! Eternal Summer, Inuyasha, Pokemon 3 — The Movie and many more.


Keisuke Yokota — Production manager for Clannad, K-ON!, HYOUKA, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! and many more.


Mikiko Watanabe — Background artist and art director on titles such as Violet Evergarden, Beyond the Boundary, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Myriad Colors Phantom World and many more.
