First Impressions: My Hero Academia Season 4, No Guns Life and More!

Juzo No Guns Life

Welcome to Part 2 of our first impressions for the fall season of anime! This season brings with it a ton of returning shows, some fan-favorites and a whole slew of brand-new shows that might just become your new favorite anime.

Check out the first impressions for My Hero Academia Season 4, No Guns Life and more below, and don’t forget to peep the video above for the rest of Part 2 of our fall season reactions! Check out Part 1 here.

My Hero Academia Season 4

First up on our list is the My Hero Academia Season 4 premiere! There’s a brand new opening to rock out to, and only time will tell if it holds up to classics like “The Day” or “Odd Future.” So far, though, that OP is a bop. Don’t lie.

The season kicks off with a recap, and can we just say… this is how you do a recap episode! It’s nicely packaged as an original side story, one not seen in the manga, that naturally brings in some throwback moments without feeling forced. If you haven’t seen it yet, we won’t spoil it, but this episode brings some real stakes to the table.

We feel like this is the first time someone was close to discovering Deku’s secret that could have some major repercussions. Other than just being thrilled that My Hero Academia is back, the suspense of this side story will hold your interest the entire way through.

No Guns Life

After Part 1 of these first impressions, this was one of the most mentioned shows! Yes, this is the show based on the same manga Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has been reading and tweeting about.

We’ll give it to you straight: The protagonist, Juuzo, has a gun for a head. And we’re not sure how they gave him sex appeal, but they did and it works.

The show immediately drops you into a grimy, post-war world where people have undergone technological augmentations known as “extensions.” These are changes to their body done by a corrupt organization, because who else would do something crazy like turn someone head into a literal smoking gun. Juuzo is also known as the “Resolver.” Get it?

Juuzo works outside of the law to fix problems caused by some rogue Extended. And the fact that his gun is a head is terrifying, sure, but he can’t fire it himself. He’s ever-searching for someone he trusts enough to pull the trigger.

Case File n°221: Kabukicho

Ah, Kabukicho, the “city of chaos.” We loved this first episode, straight up. While watching it, we discovered it to be more brutal and beautiful than we thought it was going to be.

This is a crime series that pulls from the tales of Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper, and it’s unafraid to show off its wide range of characters and delve into the grittier aspects of crime.

But that doesn’t mean it’s all about the violence, just that the presentation of the crime scene here felt way more cinematic, like something you’d expect from an HBO show or The DaVinci Code.

And it’s all wrapped up in some beautiful art with quirky characters who add a competitive edge to the age-old Sherlock story.
