One Piece Netflix Series is Official, Oda-sensei Executive Producing

Netflix is officially moving forward with a live-action One Piece television series, with series creator Eiichiro Oda signed on as an executive producer!

The 10-episode first season, produced by Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha, will tell the story of Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to find the infamous One Piece treasure and become the newest Pirate King.

Oda-sensei broke the news through a special message on the One Piece live-action series’ newly launched official Twitter account, letting fans know he will be overseeing the series. He also teased casting news to come.

According to Deadline, the production crew for One Piece includes Steven Maeda (The X-Files) as showrunner and writer and Matt Owens (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) as a writer. They will both serve as executive producers, as well as Tomorrow Studios’ Becky Clements and Marty Adelstein, and Oda-sensei himself.

Tomorrow Studios is also working on the live-action Cowboy Bebop Netflix series starring John Cho.
