After its final episode premiered today, the official Twitter account for Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story announced that a second season is in production!
The account also posted a cryptic teaser video, featuring Kyubey (Emiri Kato, Cassandra Lee Morris), Iroha Tamaki (Momo Asakura, Kira Buckland) and other characters from the series.
The announcement confirms the second season’s production and thanks fans for watching, asking that they look forward to the second season!
A spinoff of 2013’s iconic Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime as well as an adaptation of a smartphone game of the same title, Magia Record was created, like its parent series, by the production group Magica Quartet, and directed by Gekidan Inu Curry, the production duo of animator Ayuni “2-Shiroinu” Shiraishi and painter Yosuke “Doroinu” Anai. The two designed the witch sequences for the original Madoka Magica series. Both shows are produced by Aniplex.
Magia Record takes place at some point adjacent to the original series, with a rumor spreading among magical girls who’ve made a contract with the incubator Kyubey that they can be saved by going to Kamihama City.
Encountering a smaller Kyubey one day and recalling that she became a magical girl in exchange for curing her younger sister Ui (Iwami Manaka, Lisa Reimold) of an illness, she realizes Ui is somehow missing. Iroha heads to Kamihama City in search of answers, meeting other magical girls along the way.
