Rimuru and the gang are officially taking a bit more time off before they roll back into action! Both That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 and The Slime Diaries anime adaptation have been pushed back.Â
The official website for the anime series announced on Thursday that the upcoming second season has been delayed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.Â
Initially, the first part of Season 2 was set to air as part of the Fall 2020 anime season, but is now pushed to January 2021, with the second cour set to make its debut in July 2021 instead of the previously planned April 2021.Â
There’s also The Slime Diaries, a spin-off of the main series. It’s been delayed from January 2021 to April 2021, but all that means is a whole half year of Slime goodness in 2021! Now that’s a silver lining.

Though the series’ production committee had estimated and allotted enough time to complete both shows, the COVID-19 outbreak unfortunately shook up production schedules considerably. With Japan’s nationwide state of emergency only having been lifted days ago, production is just now getting back up and running.
So while we won’t be going on any new adventures with Rimuru, Ranga, Gabiru, Gobta, Rigurd or the rest of the crew until the new year, the series is always ripe for a rewatch. You never know what kind of new abilities you might learn!Â
