Nothing is quite as it seems, it seems. A brand-new batch of info has been revealed for the upcoming series Higurashi: When They Cry – NEW, and from the key visual to the PV, could we be in for a fake-out given the series’ dark history?
We should find out soon enough, as the series premieres on October 1.
First up is the new series’ key visual, which depicts a fairly mundane scene of the main characters walking to or from home with one another. But something seems…off.

Next up is the latest PV for Higurashi: When They Cry – NEW, which gives us an even closer look at what to expect when the series premieres this October. We catch a glimpse of some familiar faces, some dark flashbacks, and a bit of the history Keiichi and friends will have to confront.
However things end up, we’re certain to be in for a surprise.
And, of course, we’ve also got some information about additional casting for the series! There’s Satsuki Yukino (Free!, Full Metal Panic!, Inuyasha) as Shion Sonozaki, Chafurin (Gintama, Dragon Ball GT) as Kuraudo Oishi, Toru Okawa (Sengoku BASARA, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) as Jiro Tomitake, Miki Ito (Dragon Ball Z, Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works]) as Miyo Takano and Toshihiko Seki (Paranoia Agent, Naruto) as Kyosuke Irie.
From studio Passione (citrus, High School DxD HERO), this new series has also enlisted character designer Akio Watanabe, known for his legendary work as an animator and artist on projects like Bakemonogatari, The World God Only Knows, the Fireworks movie and the Grisaia series.
This fresh take on the Higurashi series is sure to be a stunner when it streams on Funimation this October.
