Kis-My-Ft2’s Toshiya Miyata Joins BEM: Become Human, New Clip Released

By Briana Lawrence

The latest clip for BEM~BECOME HUMAN, a film set in the same world as the rebooted anime series BEM, has introduced a new character and a new voice actor to the series, Toshiya Miyata!

Miyata is no stranger to the spot. The Japanese boy band savvy will recognize him from Kis-My-Ft2. Miyata plays Bem’s close friend, Burgess, and he brings a natural, almost theatrical charm to the character!

His playfulness is an entertaining contrast to the sophisticated stoicism of the film’s main character…Belm?

Wait, sorry, we’re being told that this isn’t the series lead, Bem?

BEM~BECOME HUMAN is the latest edition in an anime franchise that dates back to 1968! The Humanoid Monster Bem franchise centers on Bem, Bela and Belo, three yokai who have taken it upon themselves to protect humanity in an attempt to, as the title says, become human.

This creates a combo platter of “killing your own kind” and “defending a group that ostracizes you.” It’s quite the moral dilemma for our trio of yokai, but no one ever said it’d be easy to live your best life. With Belm now a thing, we can already imagine the one-sided back-and-forth between the two when the whole yokai thing comes into play.

While the BEM franchise is decades old, this upcoming movie is actually based on the 2019 series reboot. Bem, Belo, and Bela’s VAs will be reprising their roles for the October 2 release in Japan.

Gekijоban BEM~BECOME HUMAN is directed by Hiroshi Ikehata (Space Battleship TIRAMISU) and written by Atsuhiro Tomioka (One Piece Stampede), with character designer Mino Matsumoto (Attack on Titan: Junior High) and Range Murata (Cop Craft) on original character designs.
