6 Fantasy Anime Perfect for the Fall

Wandering Witch Fantasy Anime

By Kathleen Townsend

Fantasy is hands down my favorite genre. There’s nothing better than settling down to watch something brimming with magic spells, supernatural hijinks, high fantasy worlds and dragons than during the fall season.

There’s just something about the leaves changing color and the crisp bite in the air—not to mention Halloween—that makes fantasy anime just the perfect fit.

And wow, is there a lot to choose from this season on Funimation. We’ve got witches, we’ve got second seasons, and we’ve got new anime based on some of our old favorites! There’s something for everyone this season.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at six fantasy anime that are just perfect to watch right now!

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina

Wandering Witch

Are you looking for a fantasy world to kick back and explore? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is the story of a witch named Elaina who sets off on a journey across the world.

Inspired by a book of a witch who herself traveled the world, Elaina sets out to mirror her grand adventure. Each episode sees Elaina headed to a new place, meeting its people and weaving her story together with theirs, all delivering a surprisingly deep and sometimes dark tale that mixes pure fantasy with slice of life.

Humanity in all its forms is explored in this series and its wide-ranging narrative. Whether it’s the bizarre, the strange, the wonderful, or something that tugs on the heartstrings, each episode tells a story equally steeped in magic strangeness. Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is the perfect watch for an autumn afternoon.

Fire Force Season 2

Fire Force Season 2

Fire Force Season 2 continues to amaze in its second cour, and I just can’t get enough of it! I’ve been hooked since the first season aired in 2019 after meeting Shinra for the first time.

The series follows Shinra as a new member of Special Fire Force Company 8, one of eight groups tasked with putting to rest the souls of the victims of spontaneous human combustion. Let’s get you caught up with this video:

If you are caught up, you know that Season 2 is all about the battle for the Pillars, as the Special Fire Force, the White-Clad and others clash on how to utilize these incredibly powerful pyrokinetics!

Well, settle in, because Fire Force Season 2 continues, and yes, both opening themes are the perfect jams for this fall season. Perfect.

By the Grace of the Gods

By the Grace of the Gods

But maybe you’re looking for something with more of a wholesome isekai flare? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.

By the Grace of the Gods is about Ryoma Takebayashi, a 39-year-old who passes away in his sleep. Three divine beings take pity on him, though, and decide to reincarnate him in a fantasy world! Now, Ryoma’s a young boy again, spending his time by researching slimes. But eventually, he sets out with his new companions, using his powers in order to help others after healing an injured traveler.

This fantasy anime mixes in some isekai, some slice of life, and a little adventuring for good measure. So if you’re looking for a story set in another world, give this one a try!

KING’s RAID: Successors of the Will

King's Raid anime

OK, so maybe you’re hooked on an RPG game or series and you want something to complement your experience. May we suggest KING’s RAID: Successors of the Will?

Based on a mobile video game, this action fantasy series continues to be a stunner every week. Need a little bit to get you up to speed? We’ve got you.

One hundred years ago, King Kyle destroyed Angmund the demon lord, bringing peace back to Orvelia Kingdom and beyond. But there are rumors of new demon appearances that reach Kasel, a young squire. After gathering a group of companions, he sets forth to find a holy sword which is capable of slaying his new demonic enemies…

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

Yashahime

Remember Inuyasha? Good times, right? Well, not only is the original series now on Funimation, but Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, a new series in the same world, has arrived!

Set many years after the events of Inuyasha, long-lost twins Towa and Setsuna are reunited after ten years apart—and learn they’re the daughters of Sesshomaru, the great demon.

The two then set out on a journey of their own, along with Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, in order to regain their missing past!

With old and new faces alike (in the English and Japanese voice casts too!) and plenty of mysteries, there’s a ton to love here. If you’re a fan of Inuyasha, don’t wait to check out Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

What is a princess to do when she’s captured and held prisoner at a demon’s castle? Why, do whatever she can to ensure she can sleep in peace and quiet while waiting for the hero to rescue her, of course!

Syalis is an adorable princess who’s not afraid of demons and really just wants to be comfortable and left alone for a good nap. And she will do anything to ensure she’s able to sleep like the princess she is.

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle is a fantasy anime mostly set inside a demon’s castle, just as the title suggests. Standard monsters are mixed in among fun, fantastic creatures who encounter Syalis (and mostly wish they hadn’t).

This is as much a comedy as it is fantasy and slice of life series, and some scenes have an almost video game-esque feel, adding to the humor and absurdity in various situations instigated by Syalis. If you’re looking for some high fantasy comedy, look no further than Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle.
