After a delay out of its previous 2020 launch window, the anime adaptation of Uramichi Oniisan (released by Kodansha as Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan) officially has a new premiere month in Japan—July 2021.
The official website for the series confirmed the release news Wednesday, revealing a new visual as well!
It was also announced that Yusuke Shibata would be joining the series production staff as an additional character designer, working alongside Mizuke Takahashi.
And get this: The five main cast members will all be reprising their roles from the manga’s original promotional videos!
This includes Hirochi Kamiya (Attack on Titan, Noragami) as Uramichi Omota; Tomokazu Sugita (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, PERSONA5 The Animation) as Tobikichi Usahara; Yuuichi Nakamura (FAIRY TAIL, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) as Mitsuo Kumagai; Mamoru Miyano (Steins;Gate, Bungo Stray Dogs) as Iketeru Daga; and Nana Mizuki (Naruto, Claymore) as Utano Tadano.
Life Lessons of Uramichi-Oniisan follows 31-year-old Uramichi Omota, a man with two sides to his personality. On one hand, he’s upbeat and in charge of physical exercises on an educational program.
Off-screen, though, he’s a disillusioned millennial, dead inside and, uh, not really down with the whole adulting thing. As the tale continues, the less than perfect parts of young adult life are explored!

The anime is based on the manga of the same name by Gaku Kuze, and was first released in 2017. The series went on to win the Web Manga category of Niconico’s 3rd Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards and 2nd place in the 2018 pivix and Nippon Shuppan Hanbai Inc “Web Manga General Election.”
