How do you top one of the most successful shounen manga series of all time? A sci-fi romantic comedy, of course. At least that’s what Koyoharu Gotoge, creator of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is thinking about doing next!
The tidbit came from the second fan book for the series, which released in Japan on Thursday. In it, Gotoge shared their thoughts on what’s next after the success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Gotoge said that they’d been watching old sci-fi movies featuring aliens, and started thinking about how the perspective on these classics change over time and with age. As such, they said they’re considering a sci-fi romantic comedy as their next project.
Gotoge also stated that they’d love to make it so fans and creators “break out eight-pack abs” from laughing so much. Sign us up!

The fan book also includes a handful of one-shot manga that are exclusive to the publication, as well as a collection of others that were previously published elsewhere.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba originally debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2016 and ended in May 2020. The series was then adapted into the popular anime from Aniplex and ufotable, followed up by Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, which will arrive in theaters in North America in early 2021.
Whatever’s next for Gotoge, you can bet we’ll be reading!
