Pokémon turns 25 this year, and The Pokémon Company is celebrating.
After announcing that hip-hop artist Post Malone would be performing in a virtual concert on Pokémon Day (February 27), they followed up this week with the reveal of a song he has recorded for the event.
Bet you didn’t have this on your 2021 bingo card: A cover of the hit 1994 single from Hootie & the Blowfish, “Only Wanna Be With You.”
More like Posty & the Qwilfish.
You might find it a strange choice, but deep Pokémon fans know that this is a great choice. In 1998’s Pokémon: The First Movie, during the climax of the film, Ash is able to understand his partner Pikachu.
Pikachu tells Ash he only wants to be with him. Get it?
This new take on the Hootie classic can now celebrate the bond between a trainer and their Pokémon! It also helps that there are some amazing samples from the Pokémon series throughout the song.

Pokémon has also announced a Pokémon Presents stream for Friday, February 26, with likely more news about the series’ anniversary year.
