It looks like Season 1 of Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop has officially wrapped filming!

The news arrived via Instagram from actor Daniella Pineda, who’s playing Faye Valentine in the upcoming series. In her post, she revealed that the first season had finished filming, sporting a Cowboy Bebop T-shirt and a very-Faye hairstyle!

The series stars Pineda alongside John Cho as Spike, Mustafa Shakir as Jet, Alex Hassell as Vicious and Elena Satine as Julia, and is slated to release some time in 2021.

The series initially began filming in New Zealand in 2019 before John Cho’s on-set knee injury and the COVID-19 pandemic halted and delayed production. Filming eventually resumed in September 2020 with special permission from the New Zealand government, and with COVID safety regulations in place, Season 1 wrapped on March 10.

Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop is being developed by André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner, with Christopher Yost writing and original anime creator Shinchiro Watanabe serving a consulting role.

Additionally, it was recently teased by Pinkner that composer Yoko Kanno (and her band The Seatbelts) would be returning in some form to serve a musical role in the live-action adaptation, though specifics have yet to be given.

Pinkner has also revealed that each episode will be an hour long, and that, alongside a second planned season, the series will serve to further explore and expand upon the world of Watanabe’s original anime series.

The series’ initial release date was set for 2020, but following delays was pushed for 2021, and with principal filming finished early in the year, Netflix appears to be on track for their current release date pending any further delay.
