Can you believe it’s been 10 years since the airing of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day? Well, get ready to celebrate with a special project!

The series official Twitter account announced the start of a special project to celebrate the anime’s 10th anniversary, and has set up a website for updates related to it.

Also revealed was a new visual from character designer and animation director Masayoshi Tanaka, featuring the surviving members of the Super Peace Busters 10 years later. A commemorative event will be held in Japan on August 28.

The anime premiered in April 2011 and tells the story of five childhood friends who reunite in high school after having drifted apart following their friend’s untimely death five years earlier. The series sparked a manga, a 2013 film sequel and a live-action special.

The 10th anniversary is special to this series. Anohana’s ending theme, “secret base (~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~)” lyrics include a promise: “I hope we can meet again in August, 10 years later.”

With the event being held nearly a decade later in the month of August, we hope that this promise will come true. The staff’s commitment to the sentimentality that lies at the heart of Anohana is both impressive and promising, and we can’t wait to see what the year brings.

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day is streaming right here on Funimation.
