Kamen Rider Anime FUUTO PI Announced for 50th Anniversary, Coming to Funimation in 2022

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the legendary Kamen Rider series, Toei has announced the production of FUUTO PI, a Kamen Rider anime series that we’re excited to announce will stream on Funimation upon its release!

The news was revealed during a special Kamen Rider event highlighting 50 years of the iconic franchise. A historic show for Japanese culture, Kamen Rider still airs every Sunday in Japan. It first debuted on April 3, 1971.

Though the series has seen previous anime adaptations in the form of shorts or OVAs, FUUTO PI will be the first full anime series based on the live-action Kamen Rider program. FUUTO PI first debuted as a manga series in August 2017. The anime is planned for release in Summer 2022.

The story is canonically set after the events of Kamen Rider W (the 11th of ther Heisei era), which aired in 2009. It follows private investigator Shotaro Hidari and the mysterious boy Philip, two strangers who become one Kamen Rider!

FUUTO PI is said to “inherit the detailed background settings and the worldviews” of Kamen Rider W and the manga it is based on. Also revealed was a preview trailer for the series, the FUUTO PI logo and a special illustration commemorating the announcement and anniversary.

We’re so incredibly honored to be welcoming the legendary Kamen Rider into the Funimation family with the release of FUUTO PI, and we can’t wait to bring you more information as soon as we have it!
