“Dear Maria, Count Me In” Might Be The Perfect Anime Opening, And TikTok Proves It

All Time Low’s hit “Dear Maria, Count Me In” isn’t just a bop from 2008. It also might just be the perfect anime opening theme, no matter the anime. And TikTok is determined to prove it.

Thanks to TikTok user Rocky McCrary, who seems to have been the first to notice the song’s flexibility, others are pairing the upbeat pop punk song with the openings of shounen anime favorites! And yes, it feels like they all work.

Rocky inspired a legion of anime fans to test it out for themselves, and we’ve got some of the best to show you. Let’s start with the first season of My Hero Academia and its electric opening.

Sure, you’re probably saying, that’s a cheerful song for a cheerful show. How about something darker, like the somber Death Note? Yep. It works, too.

Or even Hunter x Hunter, a series that’s already a shounen classic? Of course.

You get the idea. No matter the series, the song seems to highlight the title of any anime as it appears on the screen. It’s almost eerie…but you can’t help but love it.

Even the Survey Corps and Titans get into the “Dear Maria…” fun in the Season 3 Part 1 opening of Attack on Titan.

And we can’t leave Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba out of the TikTok trend.

@mcc_rocky @mandjtv I’ve done this with so many openings. Hadn’t seen anyone do Demon Slayer yet. Now I can’t get it out of my head.
