Celebrating and Supporting AAPI Communities During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

AAPI

As part of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re proud to introduce Funimation’s Breaking Through: Celebrating & Supporting AAPI Communities, an internal program. After all, the AAPI community continues to break through barriers that have made Funimation—and anime as a whole—what it is today.

We started with an educational session with noted Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion consultant Richard Leong who led Funimation team members in discussions about AAPI existence and resistance. We learned a lot about the deep history and challenges faced by Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States and how systems and policies shaped the Asian American experience.

Another element in our program is our partnership and donation to Act To Change to help the AAPI community—including Muslim, Sikh, immigrant, limited English proficient, and LBGTQ+ youth—stand against all forms of bullying and hate. Our mission is aligned with theirs, and we hope to bring attention to the important work they do.

Finally, on Tuesday 5/18 we’ll be participating in Act To Change’s National AAPI Day Against Bullying+Hate event alongside notable members of the AAPI community, elected officials, and over 200 organizations. We hope you’ll register here to help us celebrate and support.

Please join us if you can—because together we’re Breaking Through!
