Talk about a train that just won’t stop! Just a week and a half after breaking $40 million, Demon Slayer –Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train is now the second-highest-grossing anime film in U.S. box office history.
Finishing out Friday with an amazing $43,956,487, the film officially passed Pokémon: The Movie 2000’s record, which had held the #2 spot for almost 21 years.

Of course, this is just one of many records being set by the film both in the American market and around the world. Demon Slayer –Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train kicked off its North American theatrical run by claiming the title for highest-grossing opening for a foreign language film.
When the film hit Australian theaters in February, it topped the box office opening weekend, which was the first time an anime film had done that since the release of Pokémon: The First Movie in 1999.
In Japan, the movie left its mark as the highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, which had held the top spot for 19 years. It even earned over $100 million in the first 10 days in the Japanese box office!
