Funimation Bringing Josee, the Tiger and the Fish Film to Select Theaters in July

Just in time for summer romance, Funimation is officially bringing coming-of-age film Josee, the Tiger and the Fish to select theaters in North America this July!

From director Kotaro Tamura and studio Bones, Josee, the Tiger and the Fish will arrive in select North American theaters on July 12. The film, which released in 2020 in Japan, is based on a 1985 short story from Akutagawa Prize-winning author Seiko Tanabe. The film will have music composed by Evan Call (Violet Evergarden).

The film was nominated for “Best Animation” in the 75th Mainichi Film Awards and “Animation of the Year” for the 44th Japan Academy Film Prize.

The film’s Japanese cast includes Taishi Nakagawa as Tsuneo Suzukawa, Kaya Kiyohara (Typhoon Noruda) as Kumiko Yamamura/Josee, Yume Miyamoto (Sing Yesterday for Me) as Mai Ninomiya and Kazuyuki Okitsu (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) as Hayato Matsura.

Funimation is also bringing the film to theaters in English dub, with a cast including Howard Wang (SK8 the Infinity) as Tsuneo, Suzie Yeung (WONDER EGG PRIORITY) as Kumiko/Josee and more! Check out the full English cast and crew list below.

Official synopsis: Tsuneo, an ordinary college student and avid diver, unexpectedly becomes the caretaker of a wheelchair-bound young woman in order to raise money for this dream to go diving in Mexico.

This young woman, who calls herself Josee after her favorite book character, is sullen and demanding, but as Tsuneo helps Josee interact with the outside world and learns more about Josee’s unique perspective, their feelings grow into love. The two begin to support each other in ways beyond just romance.
