Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night Sets October Release in Japan

Aniplex Online Fest 2021’s Sword Art Online talk show event reflected on the past ten years of the anime franchise, but also gave us a look into the future with a new key visual and release date for Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night!

The film is now set to release in Japanese theaters on October 30, with US release information “coming soon.”

The original series’ cast, including Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu, will be reprising their roles, with Inori Minase (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) joining the cast as Mito, an anime-original character.

Ayako Kawano leads the production in her first primary directorial role at A-1 Pictures, joined by Kento Toya (character designer on Sword Art Online Alicization) and composer Yuki Kajiura.

Sword Art Online Progressive, a re-telling of the series’ Aincrad arc, was first published by author Reki Kawahara in 2012 and now spans seven volumes.

Each volume covers a single floor in Sword Art Online, starting from Floor 1, which will be the subject of the upcoming film. Yen Press publishes the series in English.
