The game’s executive producer Kazumi Fujita says that this is the 25th anniversary for the Monster Rancher series, and that he has gotten requests to rerelease the first two games in the series outside of Japan.

“I did everything I could to promote the games including creating the anime and spreading the word about the series,” Fujita explains in the announcement video. “I wanted to let everyone know we were working on the games. I can finally make that announcement today.”

These rereleases will also allow players in the West to connect with players online in Japan. The monsters in the games are also being rebalanced, if going head-to-head is more your thing.

The Monster Rancher games featured a unique monster generation system, where players would generate monsters by inserting CDs into the game system. These new ports will use an online CD database instead, where players can look up music albums and game titles!

The original Monster Rancher and Monster Rancher 2 games were released on PlayStation in 1997 and 1999, respectively.
