A brand-new Funimation co-production is officially on its way! We’re excited to announce that a Tribe Nine anime adaptation, from studio LIDENFILMS (Tokyo Revengers, The Heroic Legend of Arslan), is officially coming January 2022.
News regarding the anime series, which will be directed by Yu Aoki, was confirmed during a special YouTube Live event, where Too Kyo Games and Akatsuki showed off more from the fictional Neo Tokyo setting and the world of the upcoming franchise. A mobile smartphone game was also revealed.
Take a look below at the new anime key visual for the series:

The Tribe Nine gaming project was first announced in 2020 with a concept trailer (below) from Too Kyo Games and Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa, Akudama Drive). The development team is no stranger to anime, with their work on Akudama Drive and the video games Death Come True and World’s End Club.
The premise for the series is that different groups throughout the city of Tokyo take part in matches of extreme baseball, which end up being more like action-packed showdowns than anything else.
In 2020, Kodaka told Weekly Famitsu that the project was focused on “extreme sports” and “street fight,” using the city as a playground for the sport (though it’s not referred to as a sport).
