Three-time GRAMMY Award winner and long-time anime fan Megan Thee Stallion recently appeared on the latest episode of the popular YouTube series, Hot Ones, to promote her upcoming hot sauce release with Popeyes.
While answering questions about herself and her career, Megan tried various levels of spicy chicken wings. During her interview, host Sean Evans asked about her go-to anime when she needs a laugh.
Megan Thee Stallion has shown her love for anime through her Todoroki cosplay magazine cover, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure manicure sets, and a Crunchyroll merchandise collaboration. She’s even thrown in anime references to her songs: “When I switch my hair to blonde, I’m finna turn up like Goku.”

But she decided her answer should be about the anime series she’s currently trying to finish watching instead: Black Clover. This isn’t the first time Megan has mentioned she is keeping up with the series. In fact, she has posted about it on her Twitter and Instagram last year.
She goes on to say that her favorite Black Clover character is the boy with no magic—Asta. She admires Asta’s confident and loud demeanor, all in spite of his hardships growing up. She even mentions his tendency to find the opportunity to be “goofy” during battle.
Megan sees a lot of parallels between herself and Asta. In the world of Black Clover, many doubt Asta’s abilities and ambitions because he wasn’t born with magic. Despite being continually counted out and put down, he trains hard to surpass his own limits.

In Megan’s words, he keeps “fighting and fighting and proving everybody wrong,” and he does not let anyone’s opinions decide his destiny. Megan sees a part of herself represented in Asta’s perseverance.

She even goes as far to explain the concept of “anti-magic” to Sean. Anti-magic is as powerful as regular magical abilities since it has the power to cancel magic attacks. This unique ability earned him the title of “the coldest character in the show.”
The rest of her Hot Ones interview explored other aspects of her life and career as she went up the spice scale of the chicken wings on the table. She will be releasing Megan Thee Stallion Hottie Sauce with Popeyes on October 19.
