From volleyball and baseball to marathon running and ballroom dancing, Production I.G has made its mark on numerous sports over the years, but have yet to tackle the most popular of all…until now!
It was just announced that the studio would be producing the anime adaptation of Yugo Kobayashi’s soccer manga Aoashi, which also unveiled its lineup of main cast members, along with a teaser visual and trailer:
Koki Ohsuzu will be making his voice acting debut as Ashito Aoi, joined by Tatsumaru Tachibana (The God of High School) as Eisaku Ohtomo, Seiichiro Yamashita (RUMBLE GARANNDOLL) as Soichiro Tachibana and Taku Yashiro (Horimiya) as Keiji Togashi.
Also hitting the field is Shun Horie (Akudama Drive) as Kanpei Kuroda, Wataru Kato (ID: INVADED) as Martis Jun Asari, Junya Enoki (JUJUTSU KAISEN) as Yuma Motoki and Kentaro Kumagai (Record of Grancrest War) as Ryuichi Takeshima.
Akira Sato (RELEASE THE SPYCE) is directing the series alongside Manabu Nakatake (PSYCHO-PASS 2) and Asuka Yamaguchi (Haikyu!!) as chief animation directors, with series composition by Masahiro Yokotani (Free!) and music by Masaru Yokoyama (Fruits Basket).
Aoashi is currently scheduled to air in Spring 2022.
Shogakukan Asia, who publishes the manga’s official English version, describes the series as:
Ashito Aoi is a young, aspiring soccer player from a backwater town in Japan. His hopes of getting into a high school with a good soccer club are dashed when he causes an incident during a critical match for his team, which results in their loss and elimination from the tournament. Nevertheless, he catches the eye of someone important who happened to be visiting from Tokyo. How will things turn out for Ashito?
