Some good news to kick off 2022! ATLUS has announced that sales of Shin Megami Tensei V have officially surpassed 800,000 units, making it the best-selling entry in the series’ mainline franchise.
The publisher revealed the news via special message in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, where they celebrated the game’s release, thanked fans for their support and teased what’s to come in 2022, including the announced Nintendo Switch version of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and the remastered version of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.
ATLUS also showed off its 2022 greeting card for the new year, which featured Shin Megami Tensei mascot Jack Frost, along with the tiger demon Byakko, as this year is the Year of the Tiger in the Zodiac Calendar.
Shin Megami Tensei V released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on November 11, 2021, and has since outpaced the previous mainline entry in the series, Shin Megami Tensei IV, which broke 600,000 units sold two years after its launch on Nintendo 3DS.
ATLUS also continues to celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Persona series, itself a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei. The company also teased a new “surprise” title planned for 2022, though it is unclear if it will be part of an existing IP or something all-new.
