The 2022 awards season is heating up, and we’ve got a new set of nominations to add to the list from the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize, which honors outstanding achievements in Japanese film!

Previously won by Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train and Weathering With You, these five incredible anime films from 2021 are up for the Animation of the Year award (and are winners of Excellent Animation of the Year):
- Sing a Bit of Harmony
- BELLE
- Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time
- JUJUTSU KAISEN 0
- Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko
If you want to see just what all the praise is about, Sing a Bit of Harmony is due out in select theaters in the United States starting January 23, and Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Ireland later this month! You can find tickets here.

Taisei Iwasaki, Ludvig Forssell, and Yuta Bando were also nominated in the Best Music category for BELLE, while Masako Nozawa (Dragon Ball Z), Yasuo Ohtsuka (Lupin the 3rd animator), and more will be receiving a Chairperson Award for lifetime achievements.
Furthermore, Kyoto Animation and Toei Animation will be taking home the Shigeru Okada Award for “producing high-quality films that combine entertainment and art with unique creativity and advanced technology.”
The awards ceremony is due to take place on March 11.
