The world of games and anime collide once again! PlayStation announced this morning that Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai, Batman Ninja) has designed the cover art for the MVP Edition of MLB The Show 22, featuring this year’s spotlight athlete, Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels!
Growing up in Japan and attending Hanamaki Higashi High School, Ohtani himself has said he’s a huge fan of anime and manga, especially the baseball series Major by Takuya Mitsuda.
Okazaki is a big fan of Ohtani as well, and collaborated with Sony San Diego to draw an anime-inspired version of the famed baseball player for the game’s physical SteelBook.
Takashi previously worked with PlayStation to design special autographed posters for the release of Ghost of Tsushima in 2020.
For those looking to snag this SteelBook, it can be found in the MLB The Show 22 MVP Edition and will retail for $84.99. The MVP Edition on PlayStation also contains the full game on a PlayStation 4 disc, as well as a digital voucher for the PlayStation 5 version, with early access starting on April 1.
It will also include several downloadable content packs such as the Diamond Choice pack, Gold Choice pack, The Show pack, and Ballplayer pack.
MLB The Show 22 launches on April 5 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be included in Microsoft’s gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, upon release.
